An international military medical exercise dubbed MEDCEUR (Medical Central and Eastern Europe Exercise) started today in Nis, in southeast Serbia, with the participation of soldiers from 15 Central and Eastern European states.

A practical demonstration was given at the military airport in Nis today.

The drills will continue through to September 13 and involve over 600 participants. They are aimed at preparing the medical staff of participating countries' armed forces for joint action in large-scale emergencies.

"This is the largest military exercise of this type in the world, whose organisation and planning lasted for a year. This is a major promotion for our defence system," said Serbian Defence Minister Dragan Sutanovac.

Serbia is hosting the exercise for the first time. The training operation has been organised by the European Command of the US Armed Forces for several years in Central and Eastern European states.

The charge d'affaires of the US embassy in Belgrade, Jennifer Brush, said that preparation was crucial in preventing deaths and injuries in the case of natural or man-made disasters.

We will all be in a better position if the civilian and military sectors of various countries prepared together, said Brush.

She emphasised that she is an optimist when it came to Serbia's European future.

According to the head of the Serbian Army headquarters, Miloje Miletic, the exercise was planned in keeping with NATO standards and procedures.

"We have considerably developed [our] cooperation with the 14 countries which are taking part in the exercise, and it is one of the forms of action [through which] we are realising our security interests in the Partnership for Peace," said Miletic.

Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Germany, Georgia, Macedonia, Moldavia, Montenegro, Norway, Ukraine, and the US are participating in the exercise with the Serbian military.

Precisely! The Reason NATO was created was to check Soviet Expansion and form a United effort in the event of the Soviet Union moving on Europe. Since there is no longer a Soviet Union NATO has exceeded its mandate and should not exist. It is NATO who is expanding.

Notice how a German General just took over command of KFOR in Kosovo? "66" years ago to almost the day it was NAZI German Paratroopers who rescued the Facist Mussolini.

The 'excuse' used by Nato for this excercise is 'in the event of any Natural or Man made disasters". Bull. Its mischief plan and simple. Contingencies for mischief. Ever see a Volcano is Yugoslavia? lol~! Or a Hurricane? Well, that rules out Natural Disasters leaving on Man made. Like the Man made breakup of the Balkans and Yugoslavia leaving Serbia in Rubble. Why is not that Man Made disaster been responded to? Is the water safe to drink? Or, will the Serbian peoples have to endure more indigities such George Soro's boyfriends parading down the street?

That is because you serbs ran Jugoslavia into the ground bleeding all the other nations dry while you serbs got the best jobs. Jugo broke up because Milosevic refused to give up power to the Croat President(Mesic) when it was the Croats turn in the rotating presidency spot. It was this event that led to the break up of Jugo. Serbian dictatorship is the reason. After that even the low life Communist Croats all were for succession because they had no more power. So the fact is Serbs have no one to blame but themselves for what happened to the. You reap what you sew. Your family must have been partisan and not part of those nazi chetniks under Milan Nedic Karadjordevic and Draza.

Had it not been for WW 2, I would probably have been born in Europe. That doesnt prevent my Yankee Doodle birthright of America from seeing even into the Akasic record the reason behind the breakup of the Balkans. The artisans and craftsfolk lived more in Bosnia Herz reagion. The Serbs were left to do the fighting. Tito developed most of his Army with Serbs. Why? Ask the Ottoman Empire why, might be the question which when researched gives the answer. Or, one could understand who Dusan the Mighty was. King of Serbia and the Emporer of Serbia and Greece.

in 1984 it had been orchestrated that the winter Olympics were to be held in the worst place in the world to hold National identities in competition. In Bosnia Herz. 30 divisions of Croats in partisan army that were mainly fighting other Croats. More non-Serbs in partisan army than Serbs. Serbian chetniks were fighting the partisans and at times even collaborated joint attacks with the Ustasha. Tito used the Serbs because they made up the majority of Balkan population. He knew that communism would never work unless the Serbs bought into it. That is why under Tito in WW2 there was only one Croat general. His name was Franjo Tudman. The fact remains that none of the other Balkan nations wanted to be a part of Greater Serbia. Croats, Albos, Slovenes, Muslims, and even your kumovi Montenegro. Did you ever ask yourself why????? There must be a good reason they hold animosity against you? Serbs were 500 years under the Turks while the Turks used Serbian janiserries to attack the rest of Christian Europe. Croatia was the true front line in the defeat of the Turks. Also, it was Croat knights and King Tomislav that defeated King Simeon of Bulgaria and freeing the Serbs or Serbia would be Bulgaria right now. Not what the Serbs did after WW1 and oppressed the other minorities. So learn a little bit before you declare Serbs heroes of Europe.LOL

You also conveniently forget about Nazi Serbia 1941-1943 under Milan Nedic, King Karadjordevic and Draza who was killed by partisan serbs for his early collaboration with the nazis.

Skull Tower, Nis, SerbiaThe Skull-tower was built after the battle that took place at the hill Cegar in 1809, by the right-hand side of the busy civil and military road to Istanbul. With these skulls, built in the sides of a cubical structure, the Turks wanted to frighten the Serbia and to prevent any other rebellion for national liberation and political independence. At the beginning of the 19th century, fighting against the Turks, the Serbs started a long and an uneven battle for liberation. Fights with the Turks became more and more frequent, and soon they turned into a general rebellion and an all-out uprising of the Serbs.
After the great victory over the Turks at Ivankovac in 1805, Misar and Deligrad in 1806, the rebels prepared a general strategic attack in order to enlarge the liberated territory and to liberate all the other parts of the country that were still under the Turkish rule.

Ottoman occupation left a lasting demographic effect on Kosovo — with full-scale dislocation of Chistian groups (especially Serbs and Orthodox Vlachs). The Serb population never accepted Ottoman rule and often rose against the foreign regimen. According to Banac, "Ottoman raids, plunder, slaving forays, as well as the general devastation caused by constant wars uprooted large numbers of Serbs even before the 'Great Serb Migration'

Although initially stout opponents of the advancing Turks, Albanian chiefs ultimately came to accept the Ottomans as sovereigns. The resulting alliance facilitated the mass conversion of Albanians to Islam. Given that the Ottoman Empire's subjects were divided along religious (rather than ethnic) lines, Islamicisation greatly elevated the status of Albanian chiefs. Prior to this, they were organized along simple tribal lines, living in the mountainous areas of modern Albania (from Kruje to the Sar range). Soon, they expanded into a depopulated Kosovo, as well as northwestern Macedonia, although some might have been autochthonous to the region. Many Albanians gained prominent positions in the Ottoman government, no fewer than 42 Grand Viziers of the Empire were Albanian in origin, including Mehmet Akif Ersoy (1873–1936) an Albanian from Pec who composed the Turkish National Anthem in 1921, "İstiklâl Marşı" (The Independence March).[29] As Hupchik states, "Albanians had little cause of unrest" and "if anything, grew important in Ottoman internal affairs", and sometimes persecuted Christians harshly on behalf of their Turkish masters.
