Mental disease, in 2030 will be at the top of the list in Albania

Tirana - In 2030, mental diseases are expected to be number 1 in the list, topping heart disease and cancer. In the World Mental Health Day, health authorities reported that these diseases should be diagnosed and treated in time, while they rank depression as the most common case of mental diseases. Only in community service centers of health care in Tirana, in the last 9 months, 15 thousand visits have been conducted. Three thousand of those visited have been children and teenagers.
"This problem has increased for the society, not only in our country, but throughout the world, because 2004th data showed that mental diseases were ranked third in the general morbidity and in 2030 it is thought that these diseases will be ranked at the very top. The greatest number of cases suffer from depression, but the most important thing is that they are treatable," said PŰllumb Pipeo, Director of Policies in the Ministry of Health.
"As regards the service in Tirana, it is offered in three community centers of mental health and in two supporting homes. During this year, 15 thousand visits are made by the primary care and 6 thousand new patients are filed," said Liliana Ramasašo, Director of Regional Health Authority.
In center no.1, 1,500 chronic patients suffering from schizophrenia or affective disorders have been filed in the system. In center no.2, 1,790 new chronic patients have been filed. Among them, 1,432 patients suffer from disorders and are mainly adults, from 18-60 years old, while 250 others suffer from mental deficiencies and dementia and are mainly over 60 years old. While in center no.3, 1,740 adults have been filed, as well as 2,290 children, of which 268 suffer from autism.
