"Time is ripe for reconciliation between Serbia and Hungary and the two countries have never been so close to reaching it, Hungary’s ambassador to Belgrade said on Friday.

Addressing the conference on the conditions of reconciliation in Szeged, southern Hungary, Oszkar Nikowitz said that in April this year the two countries’ presidents would meet in Curug (Csurog), a village in Serbia’s northernmost province Vojvodina, to commemorate the tragic events of local history in 1941-1945.

In that province, the Hungarian military and gendarmerie committed a massacre in Novi Sad (Ujvidek) and other localities, killing 3,340 residents, including 2,550 Serbs and over 700 Jews in January 1942.

In an anti-Hungarian retaliation, the Yugoslav partisans, pushing into the region in the winter of 1944-1945, massacred an estimated 15,000-30,000 Hungarians and buried them in unmarked mass graves.

Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic will bow his head to the Hungarian victims of the Yugoslav retaliation at a memorial to be inaugurated at a one-time mass grave, Nikowitz said.

Hungarian counterpart Janos Ader will then pay tribute to the Serbian victims at the site of the 1942 killings, the ambassador said.

He said the Serbian parliament was expected to repeal legislation stating collective guilt of residents of Curug and the two other Hungarian villages of Zabalj (Zsablya) and Mosorin (Mozsor) by April.

The ambassador said that gestures were needed on both sides to reach a real reconciliation, noting that “Hungary’s apologies have not reached Serbia’s public, especially its politicians.”"

Sure you never backstabbed us, only going against us in Old Age and declaring war on us first in ww1 and ww2

Going to war is not backstabbing, idiot.
In the old days, everyone went to war with everyone else, get over it.

Backstabbing is when you are allied with someone, but your turn on them and stab them in the back, like Romania in WW1 and WW2.

The invasion of Serbia had little to do with us, our government was opposed to the war.

In WW2, we only annexed land which had a Hungarian majority and previously belonged to us, which was given to you, nothing more.

So STFU.

Anyway, our idiot government has cancelled all territorial claims on neighbouring countries in the 90s, so they will not try to annex Vojvodina at all, maybe maximum press for more autonomy.

Off course, this will probably change if Jobbik ever gets into power and Gyöngyösi Márton becomes foreign minister.

Just a small question addressed to the Real Magyar...

Let's suppose that Hungary's borders should be returned to where they were prior to Versailles. According to this logic, which rests on refusal of any self-determination rights of Croats, Romanians or Serbs, should also the Austrian part of the once united Empire be restored according to the pre-Versailles status quo?

As you know, I wouldn't oppose this idea, because I am not a big fan of the concepts of nation state and right of self-determination myself. I don't see many reasons why Czechs shouldn't share the same state with Austrians or Slovenes. However, it would cause a little upheaval in the beginning, I think. It would take time to become accustomed to it.
