They started that campaign from Vukovar but after Croats with just hunting rifles killed so many invaders to take that city, the spine of the JNA was broken forever. No Croatian city would ever fall again.

JNA in Vukovar for sure was not broken.93%-95% of Croatian army was destroyed in Vukovar while other side only 11%

The point is that the main J.N.A. force was bogged down in Vukovar for nearly 3 months.

As the retired J.N.A. General Branko Mamula ( aged 92 & still living ) stated the main objective should have been the Croatian capital Zagreb & Vukovar should have been by passed.

If the capital of Zagreb had fallen to the J.N.A. it would of been Game Over for Croatia

The bottom line is that the J.N.A. had exhausted all of its time & resourses in Vukovar & the main startegic plan of the J.N.A. for conquering all of Croatia was abondoned because of Vukovar

It may be merely coincidental but Zagreb wasnt apart of the "Greater Serbia" quest of Slobo Milosevic & Borisav Jovic.

It goes without saying that the "Greater Serbia" proponents : Milosevic & Jovic were the ones pulling the strings of the J.N.A.

Regardless even Milosevic & Jovic should of been smart enough to realise that taking Zagreb out would of given the Serbs greater barganing powers over their Croatian opponents at the peace table !!!!!!

General Branko Mamula futher states that so many needless lives on both sides of the conflict were lost, so much infastructure & peoples properties destroyed because of the Battle of Vukovar & the failure to target Zagreb instead, earlier on in the war.

1. Croatia was saved by USA NATO EU and other western countries, otherwise Krajina would be all over Croatia
2. JNA for sure was not exhausted + JNA had 99% resources left after Vukovar battle
3.Milosevic - Tudjman agreement was big + for Croatia

Serbs in Vukovar used only 32.000 troops while according to 2001 estimation Serbs had fit for military service 4.888.595 civilians

4.888.595/32.000 = not even 1%
