Judging by number of threads in this forum made by some Croats how Tesla was'nt Serb, you can say something bothering them about that.

Reality is that he cannot be anything else but a Serb. A son of a father Serbian orthodox priest, and a grandson of mother's father Serbian orthodox priest, born in Lika...etc.

They can be proud that his house of birth is in todays Croatia.

THE LIE

"Son of a Serbian orthodox priest"

THE TRUTH

The main argument for this claim is that he was son of orthodox priest in his village. Serbs say that Tesla's father was priest of Serbian Orthodox Church which is first in long sequence of lies, half-truths and misinformation about his ethnic origins. Namely in time when Nikola Tesla was born (1856), same as never before that there were no autocephalous Serbian orthodox church which was founded as autocephalous nation-based church only in 1920th. Nikola's father Milutin was however as priest under jurisdiction of Patriarchate of Karlovci - which included a large territory that stretched from Adriatic sea to Bukovina and from Danube and Sava to Upper Hungary. The Patriarchate had a jurisdiction over Orthodox Serbs, Romanians, Greeks, orthodox Croats and Cincars that lived in the Habsburg Monarchy. So it was one large multi ethnic Patriarchate based on common affiliation to one large Empire. Until 1918, many of territories, that later fell under jurisdiction of Serb Orthodox Church, belonged to eparchy of Dalmatia-Bukovina and were directly under the Patriarch of Constantinople.

Even its seat small town of Srijemski Karlovci came under Serbian power only after forming of common South Slavic state in 1918th. Before that province of Srijem was a part of kingdom of Croatia (which was part of Hungarian Croatian kingdom and later Habsburg Monarchy) or so called Military Krajina but never before 1918 it wasn't under of any kind of Serbian jurisdiction.

But all this historical facts didn't stopped Serbs to claim this multiethnic Patriarchy as exclusively "Serbian" and all orthodox believers in western Balkans as "Serbs".

The Serbian orthodox priests, and later the church have played a key role in enforced serbianisation of all orthodox believers in this part of Europe regardless of their ethnic origins. In accordance with Vuk Karadzic’s chauvinistic motto "Srbi, svi i svuda" (Serbs everyone and everywhere) and Ilija Garasanin's "greater serbia" imperial political programme "Nacertanie" (roughly "Scheme") Serbian priests which always had support from Turkish sultans same as Austrian emperors managed to convert all Western Balkans orthodox believers which are now considering themselves Serbs although most of them don't in fact have Serbian ethnic origins (Valachians, Greeks, Cincars, orthodox Croats etc).

It seems that family of Nikola Tesla were also part of this serbisied Valachian ethnic corpus, namely of Istro-Romanian origins.

When Tesla was born, Tamo Daleko was playing in the backround.

He was born to Orthodox Serb priest father and Orthodox Serb nun in Zemun monastery.

He had CCCC tattooed on his back, and his whole life he was nothing more but a Serb patriot, and all his inventions were in the name of Serbia.

Tesla funeral and TAMO DALEKO song"

And how was this "orthodox Serb" commemorational ceremony held?
http://www.teslasociety.com/teslaevening.htm
It was held in Anglican cathedral of St. John the Divine, while Tesla's coffin was wrapped in American and Yugoslavian (there was not one Serbian flag around) flags. Prior to the ceremony, New York mayor of Italian descent Fiorello La Guardia read out on the radio a speech about "Great American - Nikola Tesla" written by american writer of Slovenian descent and Tesla's good friend Louis Adamic. During that time, in background, another Tesla's friend famous Croatian violinist Zlatko Balokovic was playing "Ave Maria" and not the ALLEGED Serbian song "Tamo daleko".

In his message American vice president Wallace wrote about "Nikola Tesla - Yugoslav born". Chief mourner was Sava Kosanovic, Tesla's nephew and high ranking official of socialist Yugoslavia. There was only Socialist Yugoslav delegation present, but NO REPRESENTATIVES of Serbian community from either Serbia, either USA. Btw, although there was Serbian orthodox church in New York and other mayor US cities, commemoration was held as I wrote in anglican cathedral without any orthodox priests being present. Quite unexpected for such a great "sworn Serb" and son of "serbian orthodox priest" isn't it?
