Co-operation between the Serbian and Croatian armies can help the countries to overcome past relations and create better stability in the Balkans, according to the two defence ministries, and will be important for Serbia's EU accession bid.

The Serbian and Croatian armies participated in 15 joint activities this year. The framework of the joint actions falls under the 2010 agreement on defence co-operation between the two governments.

Serbian Armed Forces Chief of Staff Ljubisa Dikovic and his Croatian counterpart Drago Lovric recently met in Belgrade, where both emphasised the importance of the partnership and announced joint projects in the fields of military economic co-operation, training and military education.

The leaders said the goal of the co-operation is to improve and maintain security in the region.

Aleksandar Radic of the Belgrade Faculty of Security said the Serbian and Croatian armies are co-operating more openly than politicians.

"These are professionals. Even if people from the generation that was at war with one another meet, that is put to the side. This is quality professional co-operation," says Radic.

He said the past conflicts are to blame for the insufficient support for military co-operation between Serbia and Croatia.

"The international community wants co-operation between the two armies as a symbolic sign of reconciliation, peace and co-operation in the Balkans. The fact is that Serbia and Croatia have the greatest military capacities in the Balkans. Serbia inherited the integral defence system from the former Yugoslavia, and Croatia has demonstrated great agility and has managed to increase its own regional importance as a member of NATO," Radic said.

Croatia has managed to increase its importance by joining NATO.

You didn't whoop no one nazi. We humiliated you in Posavina and RS which are free to this day. War ended with Dayton Agreement. Serbia never signed a capitulation paper didn't she? Which means this is only an armistice, cease fire...

Afraid so, chetnik. Oh no, not Posavina, what about your humiliation in Hercegovina, Central Bosnia and Bihac? To put it into perspective at the start of 1995 Serbs controlled around 70% of BiH, by the end of 1995, they had just 49%, guess who got the rest :P !!!! Any way I wasn't talking about Bosnia, that ended in a stalemate. I was talking about Croatia... Operation Oluja ringing any bells?

60,000 rebel Serbs........ Yeah armed to the teeth with modern JNA equipment while Croatia had NO ARMY,NO WEAPONS plus you had help from almost 100,000 JNA armed with even more weapons. Running away? Ok, Croatia held Vukovar with a puny army less than 2,000 strong with hunting shotguns and rifles against 50,000+ JNA with tanks, aircraft etc. for 3 months, how long did Knin hold out when the shoe was on the other foot? Less then 12 hours :D !!!!!!!!!! World jumped in and saved our bacon.......... You mean those idiots who took 5 years and 15,000 bodies later to work out who was the aggressor and victim, who put a arms embargo on Croatia, preventing us from getting weapons to protect ourselves, who made us negotiate with terrorists and sign a cease-fire with them giving them 30% of our land, the world that did nothing to stop Serb atrocities against Croats and Bosnians??? Oh THAT world, that indirectly did more for SERBS than Croats.

300,000? In 1991 Croatia's army was 70,000 strong while rebel Serbs + JNA combined was over 140,000 strong. Croatia's army in 1995 was less than 200,000 strong including in BiH dumbass. Run away? Does the 1995 Oluja tractor race after just 12 hours of bombardment vs 3 months of bombardment and Croats being DRAGGED out of their homes at Vukovar ring any bells?

Where is Krajina now then? Did Croatia gain its independence? Were the Serbs defeated at Oluja? This constitutes a loss for Serbia.

Joosh, Croatia certainly didn't gain independence, what she got is a mere separation, just as all those unhappy countries.

Herceg Bosna was replaced by the Croat-Muslim federation in 1993 which makes up 51% of BiH, the Croats have influence over Herzegovina the rest is under Bosnian Muslim influence. Where is Krajina and Kosovo?:D

Croatia is far happier being independent than under Yugoslavia and consequently, Serb occupation.
