I wanted to address ancient Samoan History as a whole real quick.

Ancient Sa(MOA) originally consisted of only 3 Royal Lines:

TAGALOALAGI ERA

1) Tui Manu'a Moa Atoa (Head)
2) Tui Atua
3) Tui A'ana

These 3 Royal lines were the original royal Lines of Ancient Samoa in which all 3 trace the origin of there Royal Bloodline and there Tui titles back to Tagaloalagi.

* The Manu'a Islands of ancient Samoa were the original headquarters of the Sa Tagaloa Clan hence Manu'a was considered MOTU SA or Sacred Islands to both Samoa and Tonga.

* During the Tagaloalagi Era the seat of power of all Samoa was the Manu'a Islands and the HEAD was Tui Manu'a Moa Atoa. The Tui Manu'a Dynasty also had an ancient empire in oceania ruling various other island groups such as Tonga, parts of Fiji etc.

* Pili of Manu'a travels to Upolu and establishes the political divisions of Upolu by dividing Upolu amongst his kids.

* Tonga frees herself from Tui Manu'a Moa Atoa becoming independent from Sa(Moa) or the Moa Family.

* Ahoeitu becomes first Tui Tonga his father is Tagaloalagi meaning he is from the same family & Royal Bloodline of Tui Manu'a Moa Atoa, Tui Atua & Tui A'ana.

* 15th Tui Tonga Talakaifaiki becomes a paramount Chief in Savaii now during this period Samoa consisted of Tui Manu'a Moa Atoa (Head), Tui Atua, Tui A'ana and Tui Tonga.

* Tui Tonga Talakaifaiki crosses over from Savaii to the Tuamasaga District of Upolu in which civil War erupted. Talakaifaiki was defeated and expelled from Samoa by Tuna and Fata birth of Malietoa Dynasty. The Malietoa Dynasty after defeating Talakaifaiki became rulers of Tuamasaga not all of Samoa as some claim.

* Tagaloalagi Era begins to decline for non Tui chiefly families start rising to power such as Malietoa, Tonumaipe'a, Tamasoali'i, Gatoaitele and Le Tagaloa.

* Hundreds of Civil Wars erupt in Samoa

* A new political system is established in Upolu & Savaii known as the Tafa'ifa when this happened it marked a power shift in Samoan History. The Seat of power of all Samoa shifted from Tui Manu'a and the Manu'a Islands to the Tupu Tafa'ifa of the Upolu & Savaii Islands. Tagaloalagi Era comes to a halt and Tui Manu'a Moa Atoa no longer had political influence in Upolu & Savaii but was still recognized as being of the highest rank.

* The Tupu Tafa'ifa ruled all Samoa Islands west of Manu'a. The first Tupu Tafa'ifa was Salamasina then Fonoti etc.

* More Civil Wars take place all the way up to the colonial period of Samoa.

This is only a little summary there is too much to write.

Added to above:

After many Civil wars of Samoa many Samoans found there way to new lands:

1) Pili & Pa'ao of Upolu made there way to Hawaii where Pili became King of the big island of Hawaii. The Kamehameha Royal Lineage of Hawaii trace there origin to Samoan Pili.

2) Tui Manu'a Alia Tama and some of his warriors made there way to the Cook Islands in which Tui Manu'a Alia Tama conquered Rarotonga. He was known as Karika in the the Cook Islands and the Makea/Karika Royal Lineage of Rarotonga trace there origin to Tui Manu'a Alia Tama.

3) Chief Ama of Tuamasaga (Safata) Upolu of the Malietoa family made his way to Tonga with many other Samoans starting a new line of Chiefs in Tonga known as the Heart/Flesh Of Upolu Line. The Kanokupolu Royal Lineage of Tonga traces origin to Ama of the Malietoa family and his followers.

SAMOA ATOA (HISTORY)

* OPETI TALIAI - TONGAN HISTORY ASSOCIATION/HISTORIAN

1) Tui Manu'a Empire of Samoa ruled various islands such as Tonga, Rarotonga, Tahiti, Wahua etc in which all islands payed tribute to Tui Manu'a known as the UMITI system.

2) The Falefa of the 1st Tui Tonga Ahoeitu consisted of 4 Samoans who were the older half brothers of Ahoeitu. Talafale the oldest brother of Ahoeitu was King of the 2nd house aka Tui Faleua. There was rivalry between Tui Faleua and Tui Tonga and it is stated by Opeti that the Clan of Ahoeitu's older Samoan brother Talafale was responsible for various assassinations of Tui Tonga.

3) Tui Manu'a Tae O Tagaloa was the father of Ahoeitu.

4) The Malietoa family form a dynasty in Tonga

etc..

* OKUSITINO MAHINA - TONGAN HISTORIAN/SCHOLAR

1) TONGA - external influences came in the form of imperial activities beginning with the Tui Pulotu empire in Fiji and followed by the Tui Manua empire in Samoa. In other words, Tonga was under considerable influence from the imperialism of both Fiji and Samoa. However, Tonga was able to free herself through bitter and bloody wars from the imperial domination of the Tui Manua -- which eventually led to the formation of the Tui Tonga empire around AD 950 in the person of Ahoeitu, the first Tui Tonga -- whose father was a deified Samoan high chief,TangaloaEitumatupua, and mother a Tongan woman, Vaepopua, of great noble birth.

2) Tui Tonga Ahoeitu was of Samoan paternal descent in other words his father was SAMOAN. The Fale Fa and Sina'e classes were Samoan inventions held by close relatives of Ahoeitu (Relatives of his father side).

3) The practice of ha'a in the Tu'i Tonga rule was radically scrutinised by the powerful Samoan-led, Tu'i Kanokupolu-informed regime, when it was changed from it being fatongia-based, economically-led, e.g., ha'a tufunga, material artists and ha'a tufunga nimatapu, artists-of-the-handling-of-the -dead, to it being ego-centred, politically-driven, e.g., Ha'a Ngata and Ha'a Havea.

* PASILIKA O SANGATO ATONIO PATUA (1992 NUKUALOFA)

Nae hoko e ngaahi liliu lahi i Tonga ni tupu mei heene fetuutaki mo muli,o kau e kakai mulimo enau sivilaise ki hono fakalele a e fonua. The writing in Tongan above is talking about Tui Manu'a ruling Tonga.

These are only some of the Tongan Historians/Scholars who address the Tui Manu'a Empire and the Samoan Tui Kanokupolu Dynasty in Tonga.

The Tu'i Kanokupolu traces its roots to the Tu'i Ha'atakalaua. But at the same time Tu'i Kanokupolu didn't really jump into the drivers seat until some times later...ancient samoa history, then you mention Tonga, you better recognise!:) why not write about Malietoa vs Samoa, or Savaii vs Upolu or something like that .samoa was never united in ancient times so they would have never intervened with Tongan Politics. Tonga in the other hand was. so while each chief had but a couple of hundreds warriors Tonga had Thousands and a naval force that could hit you like a heart attack.........

Why would Samoans be ashamed? Im from Upolu and my ancestors were the Samoans who went to tonga and created the A'ano O Upolu line in Tonga and is the only Line to have survived something I am very proud of.

Tongan civil wars between the Tu'i Kanokupolu and the others were on and off till 200 years ago. no mention of any samoan assistance. In fact its noted, We Tongans were so proud we didn't accept any assistance from samoans instead we sent them off to fiji. Also 200years ago samoa was fighting amongst themselves why would they intervene......
