E ke le magakuaiga me asking you for your inputs about Tufu and Lele? The story fascinated me when the composer went as far as dedicating the occasion with a song, changing the Palapalaloa's village name to what is now known as TUFULELE!!!

You're the expert on music researches, so I was seeking your opinion/advice about the lyrics!!!

'Ae le ose mea fo'i e ke fia fufuji ulu ai e??? LOL

Mahalo sista... Surf still loves you... LOL

awww, thank you sis proud for this, well i always enjoy stories of long ago, i remember this one being told while i was young, if i mistakenly tells it different, feel free to correct it, i vaguely remember this one " turtle & shark"
a young girl and her mother who lived in the village of vaitogi, they had nothing to eat so the mother and child jumped into the oceans depth as they did they cried to the gods and to this day when the villagers would sing this chant "laumei faiaga" you would see a sharks fin and a turtle swimming side by side, so as i got much older i had my friends who are from vaitogi sing this chant, and surely i did see both turtle and shark for a brief moment that is because my younger sibling pointed @ them but the feeling of seeing is believing still lives in me, thanks again proud

THE OCTOPUS SPIRIT.....O LE FE'E AITU
Source: Samoa ne'i galo. Volume One

Many legends have been told of the Fe'e, and many tales have been written about it. The more it is talked and written about, the more it is enthroned in the minds and hearts of man to pass on through the future generations of Samoa.

In ancient times, the Octopus lived inland in the district of Vaimauga, ia a part of the area of Apia on the island of Upolu. It was known as a spirit, because it changed it's form. It was believed to take the form of the octopus during daylight, and in darkness would become a man.

An old man who related the story was in awe of the fearsome image of the octopus, as portrayed in stories told by his forefathers which told of the immense size of this octopus. It was a demonic spirit, that glowed a bright scarlet color in hte sea, especially at night. It took on many forms, which the people feared.

The Octopus Spirit came from Fiji, to challenge the many known warriors/braves of Samoa. C. Stuebel in his book, Myths and Legends of Samoa pp. 86-87 supports this belief. So'oalo, an elder of Vailima, also shares this belief and claims that the octopus formed a village and following of people who offered human sacrifice in their worship of the octopus.

to be continued...

It worked it's way up the river of Vaisigano, and many believed the Fale-o-le-Fe'e, the well known landmark, was built by many spirits, and not by the Octopus alone. This Fale-o-le-Fe'e is an amazing structure, in that the beams and rafters were all carved of rock, their appearance of such perfectness, as if formed by sharp instruments!!!

The common belief is that Samoa was occupied by the Octopus Spirit for many years. It became God to be worshiped in those ancient times. It could foretell the outcome of wars. The same Octopus took girls of Samoa as his wives. The Octopus was also known to have lived in Savai'i, in the areas of Gagaifomauga and Fa'asalele'aga.

It is confirmed the Octopus left Samoa and returned to Fiji. To this day, the Fale-o-le-Fe'e stands inland of Vaimauga, Magiagi, Upolu.(The author printed pictures to prove the story)
