I grew up in Samoa and never heard of the term "Polynesian" until I lived Overseas. And when I came across it - I understood it to be simply a term that Foreigners used to refer to Samoans, Tongans, Hawaiians etc as a Group.

I know I first heard of the word from a Tongan friend in class. He was telling me I'm a Polynesian and had no clue what it was. He had to break it down for me Lol. Still I don't use the word often.

And if I may ask, Samoa or AM Samoa ?

"The genetic admixture in Polynesian history between East Asians (∼87%) and Near Oceanians (∼13%) occurred ∼3 kya, prior to the colonization of Polynesia. Fijians are of Polynesian (∼65%) and additional Near Oceanian (∼35%) ancestry not found in Polynesians, with this admixture occurring considerably after the initial settlement of Remote Oceania."

I can't believe you had a foreigner tell you what you are. Bloody ridiculous. I'm Samoan. Only for conversation purposes with Palagis I might throw around the Polynesian term but its like saying 'cutlery' re: like wtf has that got to do with a fork from a fork's point of view.

Well I wasn't raised with the word Polynesian as were you. I was raised taught I was Hawaiian, I grew up in a Hawaiian household. Only Haole's and Tourist guides call us Polynesian. I'll use Polynesian to show we are of the same genetic stock like Samoans, Tongans etc. That's about it.

Come on guys, since when did we become prejudice to dark skin? What's wrong with Africans? I would've thought that's something only a racist Caucasian might say..
