I believe ur probably been misinformed...The Samoans always had their tatau (Samoan tattoo) from the past to present the only difference was that it was only the high chiefs or Alii's that had the tatau in the past an as for the present anyone could take part of this...Don't get me wrong but Tongans never had the art as where Samoa has...The Samoan Tattoo has been show cased worldwide so where are u coming from saying Samoa has copied Fiji and Tonga????......The Samoan Tatau has been written in many books and authors all over the world since the 1800's and they have pictures and the Samoan art tools from the 1820's in the museum of Honolulu....So please don't say Samoans are copying the Fijians and Tongans...Get ur facts str8 before u start accusing the Samoan people...I respect all Polynesia.....God bless

The word tattoo is from the samoan word tatau lmao!
As for copying, i haven't seen a fijian yet with a tattoo, and most tongans are more into gold teeth than getting a tattoo. hmmmm

Samoans and Tongans did not invent tattoos. However, it is understood by everyone that tatau is a unique identity of being Samoan. Samoa is the only recognized island in the Polynesian island group to have continued traditional tattooing to the present day.

Where's the tradition Tongan tattoo ur talking about???...The Samoan tatau has been with the Samoan culture fr the past all the way to the present so I guess ur speaking of stories coz i don't see any Tongan traditional tatau....So stop hating on the Samoans just because our tatau is known worldwide....

1600? Is THAT all? A few hundred years? I quote...

"Samoan Tatau was developed over 2,000 years of cultural heritage and integration with aesthetic refinement that make it true unique"

Studied by researches and historians! Look it up if you don't believe me. You guys are just a a couple hundred years too late, Thank you :)

Yes, they did. Art was from Fiji. Brought to Tonga first and then Samoa second. Too bad, Tonga stopped this practice due to some Christian reason of the sorts... but yea, Vinaka vaka levu..
