to all youngsters now having questions about the origins of chinese surnames hence traits n lineage in samoa; you really need to go back and look at samoa's history, 1900 german samoa...samoa was administered by the germans and the chinese were brought into samoa by the germans to work on their copra plantations in those days...while they forbade the chinese marrying local women by use of punishment etc...this didn't stop intermarriages between the two...luckily after the war when the germans got defeated, the chinese were already raising families with their samoan families n got to stay...i have nothing against our chinese brothers n sisters as most of them have no strong links with their chinese lineages anyway, i think the majority are more samoan than chinese if you get my drift...i think the 2 cultures blend well together n i myself have german, scottish n no chinese lineage whatsoever!

Sole you forgot ,

German - Graf , Netzler , Schmucker , Mann , Muller , Vogt , Winter , Schaaf , Purringer etc .

Chinese : Leung Wai , Ah Hing , Ah Mu , Ah Fong , Ah Wong , Po Ching , Ah Lau , Ah Cheung etc.

As for myself , my great grandfather , Chow Cheng Ho came from Panyu ,Ghuangzhou (Canton), Ghuangdou Province , Southern China arrived in Samoa as a coolie in 1927 . He married a local woman Solema Fesola'i Pio (my great grandmother) from Faleasi'u , Upolu , Western Samoa .

I'm one of the many 200 + descendants of the Ah Chow family in Western Samoa , China , the U.S., Denmark , New Zealand and Australia .

Thanks for the info, very interesting.
Here are some of the most prominent German, and British (i.e) English, Welsh, Irish, Scottish names in Samoa when I was growing up. These are only some that I can remember off the top of my head.
German...Retzlaff, Schaathausen, Schmidt, Shuster, Schwalger, Wendt, Ulberg, Wulf, Stunzer, Passi, Rasch, Wetzel, Fruen, Carmont, Nauer, Schwenke, Von Reitch, Keil etc etc...
Others....Stowers, Meredith, Phillips, Slade, Hunt, Laban, Betham, Warner, Fidow, Mariner, Carruthers, Bartley, Nelson, Creevey, Wright, Heather, McDonald, Pritchard, Annadale, Rasmussen, Ryan, Barlow, McFarlane, Marfleet, Willians, etc etc....
As for Chinese names don't even make me start....lol. Too many and I'm tired. And yes there are dark Samoans with Chinese names..
