Bottom line is, Fijians claim and hold on to Africa with fervent pride...even though we have no genetic link to Africa nor are there any cultural similarities to any people groups within the African continent! The funny thing is that Melanesia, the group by which Fijians are related to, are genetically related to Asiatic peoples. Yet only Fijians out of Melanesia say we are Africans.

And I'm proud of the fact that we couldn't care less about the negative connotative view hung on the word 'Africa' and its people. Fijians are born 'die hards', and are not ashamed and afraid of frail onlookers who talk smack...because they are not half as hearty as we are. Africa, is where its at. Africa mo Fiti!

As much as we say & believe we r from Africa. Africa is a very big continant. Some of our food and traditional clothes r similar to the South Africa even those tried close to lake tanganica. Then there r other parts of Fijian life & culture / tradition that r very similar if not the same as the North African like Egypt, Ethiopia & even Israel. It is a very interesting topic & very much worth the looking in too.

I'm a travel agent from Australia and when i see all this comments i figured why most of my clients prefer Fiji as their holiday destination then Samoa.

98% of them agree to the fact that Fiji is more developed, beautiful and unique then Samoa. I'm sorry but this is the truth.

I still remember one of my client saying "They [Fijians]are proud of who they are, not like most of the Samoans here in Ozzy who wanna be "US".

We admire the Fijians because they are kindhearted,gentle,patient, joyful and friendly. This is why business and life is better then Samoa.
