The choice offered is just ridiculous: all these countries are NATO members, and unlikely to break their bounds to ally with Russia anyway. Beside, they are of no interest to Russia, being mostly weak countries (apart from France and UK, of course). I can never see Russia allying with any Western country.

No, Russia could maybe increase relations with China in the frame of the Shangai Economic Cooperation Treaty, and join forces in Asia. That could be the only sta, rtegic alliance worth of consideration for Russia.

Another distant option is India, with which Russia has good relations too.

Russia should make friends and treaties with ASEAN. Matter of fact, Putin was in Phnom Penh November last for an ASEAN summit as was Wen and Obama. In Asia ASEAN is the way to go. Russia already has trade and treaties with India. don't like now, Monsieur, but Putin, Wen and Obama are already buddies. bon soir.

Russia shouldn't be part of any alliance where the US are present. The goal of the US for more than a century is to defeat Russia and plunder its resources.

ASEAN is just a multitude of countries, each with different goals and policies; not a cohesive organisation. It's a bit like the EU. I cannot see what ASEAN would bring to Russia.

No, an alliance with China or India would have more meaning for Russia.

Had it no be in NATO already, Turkey would also be a potential ally for Russia.

Russia should be on more friendly terms with Eastern and Central Europe.

Many of them are in NATO because they are afraid Russia will bully them again.

It's Eastern and central Europe that don't want to be friendly with Russia, as witness the constant verbal attacks from Vilnius, Tallin, Warsaw, Kiev, etc... They still see Russia as the USSR.

Anyway, Russia has nothing to do with them anymore. All they want is compensations, help, cheap gas, and to humiliate Russia.
Anyhow, they all have thrown their lot with NATO (Russia's enemy) and the EU now, and are somebody else's burden.

Russia should think afresh, about real alliances, not just subsidising satellite countries.

Not really realistic that map, is it?

North African countries taken over by the US?
I don't think so ...

The Arab world isn't as pro-Russia as it was pro-USSR in the past. The material and military help has mostly dried up now, and Moscow chose to sit back during the Arab spring.

Like the U.S is more likely to take Poland than Ireland!?

Ireland has 4 million people on the Atlantic coast closest to the U.S.

Ireland would clearly be the easiest Nation for the U.S to take over in Europe.

This could include by consent too.

http://www.irishcentral.com/news/Top-banker-s...

Soden even raises the possibility that Ireland might need to break away from the EU, and become the 51st state of the United States of America.

"We might consider this option unthinkable, but 50 years ago we may have thought membership of a European Union or a United States of Europe to be impossible, he says.

Allience with eastern Europe makes no sence for Russia.
Eastern Europe is weak.
Russia needs strong allies, like China and India.

Can you blame them? Most of them are paranoid over the current Russia, and remember the USSR.
If I was from a small country like Estonia, whose population is the size of a city, compared bordering Russia, I would be paranoid too.
Russia could destroy Estonia within minutes, just walk over there and place a flag on Talinn. That is why went to Nato.

Not "taken over by US", think "pro USA than pro Russia".

Of course.... Estonia is closer to Saint Petersburg than many people living in a Nation are to their capital.

Most of Germany lives much further from Berlin than Estonia does from Saint Petersburg.

It is right.... That Estonia could be taken over by Russia very quickly & easily.

It is a wise thing for Ukraine not to piss directly into Putin's eye. All Ukrainians know this, instinctively.

Why not? Saudi Arabia, very strict Muslim state, pro USA.

These revolts in America are USA backed.

Saudy is monarchy. Untill Saudies rule it is pro USA if brothers muslims (this is political party in Arabic countries) will take over SA it will become anti USA.

Egypt is under broothers muslims and it is clearly anti Israel, what means anti USA. Mubarak was more friendly to USA and Israel than Mursy.

Eastern Europe still has untapped potential that was hidden in the turbulent 20th century...

Would you rather be ally of Poland? Or have NATO missile shields in Poland instead?
