I am asking this here because I already asked this in the Bulgarian forum but it doesn't seem there are too many Bulgarians participating in that forum (so I will see what Russians have to say about it), and I only got one vote (the other two were mine) in favor of staying in both, I don't know why he chose that option nor if he was even Bulgarian.

I will speak for myself and I'm NOT from Bulgaria. They should choose the best path for their country and themselves. From what I understand Bulgaria is doing OK as it is. The question I would ask, and no knock on Russia, but what can Russia do for Bulgaria that the EU can't? What real advantage would there be? I'm no fan of the EU BUT "better to dance with the devil you know than to switch partners with the one you don't". Just an opinion.

Bulgarians have a Russian mentality, they would feel at home in Russian sphere of influence.

You are 100% correct. I am not but also I'm not the one who presumes to know what a people are and who they are to be aligned with. You did that.

Bulgaria has nice sea side resorts. They also have great agriculture. Russia has gas, oil, electricity, market for Bulgarian goods.

I would agree with you, rapid changes - it's not good.

Bulgaria is definitely not doing OK as it is, the economy and infrastructure of the country has been constantly deteriorating sine 1990. So much so that the people are protesting against their new one month old government to resign (like they did with their previous government before the emergency elections) because it showed it is just another Mafia puppet (like all the other governments in the country for the past 25 years) which is supported by the EU.

The EU did nothing except making the situation worse with their sense laws, such as nearly shutting down the country's nuclear power station completely (down to two reactors only), their only major source of electricity, in favor of importing electricity from France and importing expensive inefficient solar panels from Germany. All their major industries were either shut down by the EU's regulations, or they have been sold off to some billionaire in some tax haven who pockets all the profit and pays starvation wages to the Bulgarian workers, hence leaving them no choice other than to emigrate to Western Europe. The EU also dictates its foreign policy and alienates their traditional allies which is negatively affecting the country, i.e. increased gas prices from Russia, or even a cut off of gas supply to Europe as Russia has already threatened to do that if Europe gets involved in Syria.

And as if that isn't enough the EU has no respect for Bulgarians, all you have to do is go to the British online newspapers and see what they say about Bulgarian and Romanian work restrictions being lifted, you would think they are talking about locusts, and that is hypocritical considering that they have no problem accepting Arab, Turkish and Pakistani immigrants which don't have a wish to integrate into British society and have a much higher birthrate than Bulgarians and Romanians. So the EU has become so arrogant that it doesn't even make Bulgaria want to be in the EU, doesn't even make them want to be their allies (we know geopolitics is the whole reason they were brought into the EU, even the Dutch foreign minister admitted it).

All in all, if we look at history Russia has always been Bulgaria's friend (except in the World Wars where Bulgaria was with Germany, but in both cases with Germany it ended badly), Russia liberated Bulgaria from the Ottoman Empire, whereas Europe has always been Bulgaria's enemy with their support for the Ottoman Empire and their continued support for Turkey even to this day.

I don't think that the countries that were in the Warsaw pact would want to go back to Russian influence.

Maybe not all of them, and they won't exactly want to go back directly to the Warsaw pact, but I know for sure, some such as Bulgaria would prefer to have closer relations with Russia than with the arrogant, disrespectful, failing EU.

Good, well I don't know for sure, but what I am sure of is that they are definitely the lesser evil.

I gave my opinion, and from the way it has been judged, someone agrees me.

So do you want to make an issue out of it???
