Most people would like to see kaliningrad as a independent state. Prussia is just a option which the independent state could be called because of its past! And there is a growing support for it

Actually it is up to the Kaliningraders to decide independent, attach to Poland, Lithuania or split between the two. It is my humble opinion majority of Kaliningraders would vote for independence. Then again one must factor in the fact of origin. A Kaliningrader with Polish ancestry would think differently than one with Lithuanian ancestry. Also you have those of both ancestries. Which side? bottom line is Kaliningraders should have their say of independence, Poland or Lithuania. Without the physical violence that ususally goes with anything mankind has to decide. we don't an India/Pakistan type bloodbath on the European continent. Of course, Europeans are not Asians. Well, most ain't. Comments, please.

As I was posting, a thought came to me mind. I recollect a lot of people from Germany in the old days during the days of the Hohenstauffens and Hohenzollerns settled in East Prussia which would incude the Kaliningrad area. Are there many left or did the majority go back west to Germany? If you prefer not to answer, I can research it but it would save some time if you would answer. Merci!!!

Thank you, Freedom and Yuri, for your input. Concerning the Prussians, who does eastern Europeans believe the Prussians are present day? Or do they believe Prussians as a people have disappeared or been absorbed into another people?

No problem, that's why we need to keep working at it! I think it's more down to people's unawareness and misleading governments that's why they do not know about Prussia and its people

People's unawareness is what makes stupid conversations. But one must admit the unawareness is due usually to people's intellectual laziness. they want others to tell them what things mean. The German word Preissen. Does anyone on this forum know the word, what it pertains to, the meaning. the German words Preissen and Bayern. How many have heard or read the word Konigsberg? Au Revoir!!!

The German administration was evacuating people first. The people were evacuating (fleeing) on their own too. Massively. I don't know about destinations when they were taking land routes, but with sea routes, the ships were overwhelmingly mooring in today's Land Schleswig-Holstein. That's where people stayed or walked off to proper Germany too.

At the 2011 legislative election, the Communist Party of the Russian Federation took 31% of the votes in the city of Kaliningrad and Putin's United Russia only 21%, but the results in the rest of oblast were favorable to United Russia. According to Igor Revine, regional deputy for the CPRF, the electoral process in the city was under severe scrutiny of observers, but in peripheric cities like Sovetsk the electoral rigging was extensive. According to Sergei Rybine, of the independent NGO Golos, "without rigging, the CPRF would have won the election in the whole region".

Equally worrisome is the fact that some Lithuanian politicians are even more resolute about the status of Kaliningrad than politicians in Germany. They refer to the city of Kaliningrad as ‘Karaliaucius’ and the whole of this Russian region as ‘Lithuania Minor.’ The Encyclopedia of Lithuania Minor, published in the United States and distributed at various international forums, designates the Kaliningrad Region as a “Russia-occupied Karaliaucius area of Lithuania,” as an “ethnic land of the Balts” and part of their “historical heritage.” Georgs Bagatis of the Baltic Unity organization says the presidents of the Baltic States must make a joint statement acknowledging the occupation by Russia of the “KЪnigsberg area.” He wants the statement to be submitted to the United Nations in order to win international recognition of the fact that the decisions of the 1945 Potsdam Conference allowed Russia to govern the region only temporarily.

Of course, they tripped with that one. Surely there are parts of the territory along the Lithuanian border that had been populated by Lithuanian people alrgiht, but other than that it belonged to Prussians who were not identical with Lithuanians. But to go as far as claiming Krolewiec/Koenigsberg/Karalauc ius/Kaliningrad Lithuanian??? What next, maybe Czechs claim it too as it was kind of started by their king and named in his honour?

The people of the kaliningrad region do not want to be apart of Russia. Which is the main factor, they want to be a independent state! What ever the name of the new country would be called is debatable. Most local people would like to see it called Prussia because of its roots.

If nearly 90% of the population is of Russian origin, why would they want to be independent of Russia? For Russia it's perfectly placed for any military strategy.
