Chirac says 'merci' for top Russian award

Former French president Jack Chirac has become the first foreigner to receive Russia's highest State Award for humanitarian work. He has been honoured for his contribution in making Russian culture more accessible to the world.

Chirac travelled to Moscow specially for the ceremony, which was held in the Kremlin.

The French government and the Russian government seem to have formed a close relationship over the last six months, marked by not only incidents included in this article, but also, the drastic increase in French Russian trade and politics. Nicolas Sarkozy has done such an extensive and commendable job at reaching out to Russia, for example, by telephoning Prime Minister Vladimir Putin to congratulate past successes and extending warm invitations to European Union affairs. Now all I am waiting for is the French to help the Russians develop a skin care line for women of Russian descent who live in temperate Russian climates, such as the French have for women in warmer climates with oilier skins, and cooler climates with drier skins. Then, I want to be able to go to Canada and by it next to the Lancome Counter, only it would be called the Cosmetics counter in the "Russian" language or some other name. OOpps goottttaaa goooooooo

Yeah, it's a warm feeling to know that for so many years, French and Russian have a durable relationship, marked by respect and understanding.

Although both countries went different paths and were at time on opposite sides, there has never been outright hostilities. In the contrary, they have show mutual admiration. I hope that future leaders on both sides will nurture that sentiment and that the 2 countries will become even closer.
