Thousands of protesters have filled a Moscow square to denounce President Vladimir Putin a year into his new term and rekindle the momentum that was brutally quashed when a protest last year led to mass arrests.

Organisers said tens of thousands turned up for the rally, which marked one year since a chaotic anti-Kremlin protest on May 6, 2012, that descended into violence.

"Putin is a thief," charismatic opposition figurehead Alexei Navalny said to cheers from the crowds. "We will throw him out of the Kremlin."

Police estimated the numbers on Monday at 8000.

50 % of Russians live beneath poverty, conscription thrives, corruption has become a fact of life there. America still has more opportunity and better justice even if the system there is not perfect , it is superior in justice and human rights, and truly the opportunity for anyone is equally there for those with drive and purpose.
