Are Romanians,in reality Gypsies?

What a stupid question. The name Romania says it all: it's the leftover of the Eastern part of the once almighty Roman Empire. And I can't recall history books talking about the old Romans as being gypsies.

Hey, Its really simple. LOOK AT A ROMANINA AND LOOK AT A GYPSY, YOU CAN DEFF. TELL THE DIFERENCE SPECIALLY IN THEIR SKIN COLOR.. The reason they want to be called Romi, because its a more politically correct. its the same thing as calling black people Arican, and not the N word.
Now 99.9% of gypsys are somehow connected to crimes or shady activities. Im not insulting the hole polulation, because there are a hand full that are really really good people.
And some one allready said this, romanians are desendents or Dacia, gypsys came from somewhere near india, and back in the day they where used as slaves. and we should have keeped it that way and used them as slaves, and never gave them rights.
as for Hungarians.. they are worse then gypsys ....

In the past, yes. Starting few decades ago, Romanians became, US, French, English, German, Australian citizens. the Roma is all is left in Romania.The gypsies kept the country that is named after their nation. Who said is not true, it is, because any romanian left out there, in Romania for sure got married with some gypsy, now their familie are gypsized.

Romania is a better country them america is any day. I have been to romania 3 times now and planning to go back next year.Rather visit there than america anyday.

This is a very ignorant question. The Roma people originate in India and migrated to Europe in the middle ages where they were subjected to a lot of discrimination, socio economic marginalization, slavery etc. Roma is a more correct term than "Gypsies" because "Gypsy" comes from the mistaken perception that the Roma were from Egypt when they arrived in Spain (via Egypt). Roma is the word they use to describe themselves.Romania on the other hand was a colony of the Roman Empire and that is where its name comes from - Roma as in the city in Italy. Much of its language is rooted in Latin. Both Roma and Romanians would most likely be offended by this confusion, as they are distinct people with very different histories and cultures. I hope that this helps to clarify the confusion.

Wow, you are either a Hun or a product of the poor education system in the U.S. You clearly know nothing about Romanian history or the land. You might want to look into the inventions the Romanian people have given the world. Much of the U.S. military systems were developed in Romania by Romanians and the second most used language at Microsoft is Romanian. Hungaria has produced nothing but crime and America now offers the world Big Mac's. When America becomes a superpower again with an education system that can compete with the rest of the world and is no longer the biggest debtor nation on earth, you might have the right to speak about other countries.

Romania is a more economically stable than Hungaria, has less crime, and less gypsies.
