Finally!

The Young Democrats of America passed a resolution supporting statehood back in December 2012.

This is the beginning of a monumental change for Puerto Rico. Full equality and citizenship rights under the American flag is closer than it's ever been.

The old White men of the Grand Old Party(ie: those in the 50s and 60s) will ignore Puerto Rico at their own peril. If they ignore the statehood movement, or oppose it then it will be another nail in the GOP coffin.

If they support it they just might be able to take out a few nails ...

This is the first time in Puerto Rico's history, that a petition for statehood is backed by a solid, electoral mandate.

Did you know that Puerto Rico has petitioned for statehood twice; before the "ELA's" creation.

I know Bolivar Pagan tried for statehood in 1940

When was the other petition? Luis Munoz Rivera? Santiago Iglesias Pantin?

I have to check the other legislator, but I think is was Santiago Iglesias, BolĂvar Pagan's father in law.

As I suspected. I had no idea that Pagan submitted a statehood bill until I saw the transcript on one of the pro-statehood pages on Facebook last week.

I had no idea that Iglesias also submitted a statehood bill.

Like you said though, this time around is a completely different ballgame given the results of last November's referendum.

Agapito's administration budget is around $10 billion dls (and with almost $25 billion dls in federal funds and transfers); Puerto Rico has around $35 billion dls./yr for all sorts of projects.

With statehood, the islands would be receiving aroun $10 billions more (or $45 billion dls for the welfare and benefit of 3.6 million persons).

With that kind of money, Puerto Rico should have enough funds to become Latin America's Dubai or Hong Kong.
