Hello, I am a Mexican (in Mexico) and I am curious about the opinion of Puertoriqueños regarding Mexico and Mexicans.

I personally only met in my life a Puertoriqueño when I was living in Chicago many years ago and I think he was a nice person.

Obviously boricuas and Mexicans are both "Latinos"/"Hisp anics", but appart from sharing a common cultural root of Spanish culture, I am interesting in knowing how do you percive our differences and similarities about culture or political points of view.

Regards.

P.s.

I am more active in this other forum of Topix, if you were so kind of visiting would be nice:

I am of Chicana and Puerto Rican decent, who is learning about Chicano history.Years later I would hear very negative remarks from my relatives who lived in East Los Angeles about themselves. The media is no different in 2012 as it was in 1943. It has always been very negative against the Americans of Mexican descent, and now it is the illegal immigrants that they are criminalizing and focusing on. The attack on the Mexican American youth was disrespectful and racist and very harmful psychologically. This was psychological warfare.

OMG!

Islands Puerto Ricans are taught hardly anything about any Hispanic or Latino communities; or even about the Caribbean which surrounds us and less about the Latin America which we belong to.

Colonialism has been savage in Puerto Rico.

EVERY country hich speaks Spanish as the primary language including Cuba2 (Miami) has the same virus, our own corrupt, parasitic politicos , officials and police.

I have no idea what we can do about it because it often seems that most don't care.

On another note. I imagine there was a time when you saw plenty of collectors in your city looking for the highly sought after Queretaro kingsnake.

"In tense meeting, Doral replaces vice mayor"

Como dice un amigo mio-

Albert Batista · Top Commenter · UMiami
"The drama capital of the universe is Miami. Add some corruption, ethnic tension, and political divisiveness, and you have a totally dysfunctional community"

http://www.miamiherald.com/2013/03/07/3273362...

Como SIEMPRE el Doral journal me deja en "Your comment is awaiting moderation" lista o despues de un dia quitan lo que escribe.

Jose says:

“Carollo who took office last Thursday January 10, said in an interview with the Miami Herald that the presume discontent of Stierheim is because he believes Hispanics do not know how to govern themselves and need someone like him around.”

Stierheim did NOT say that but living in Miami .
Being Cuban ,I would agree that “Hispanics do not know how to govern themselves/ourselves ” because this is all I have seen here in Miami.

Rampant city corruption, deplorable political ,police standards and perpetual hispanic soap opera like a pubescent drama.
Hiring Carollo was a huge mistake and if I had known Mayor Luigi was going to bring one of the “old Cuban Guards” back in play, I would have NEVER voted for him.

I do think that Bermudez did a great job with very efficient staff and thus is as rare as honest Cuban Miami commissioner but I DID want the police chief gone and do not know any neighbor who did not feel the same.

Historically, Puerto Rico belonged to the viceroy kingdom of Nueva España (modern day Mexico); not to the Nueva Granada kingdom or modern day Colombia.
