??? -- Breaking News In Carolina, Puerto Rico, At Laguna Gardens Shopping Mall -- ???

Feb 17, 2009 Full story: 6

Something strange is going on at the Laguna Gardens Shopping Mall area. Last night, It was a very long, long wait for an A5 bus to arrive at the Old San Juan Terminal. It arrived and there was nothing unusual along the route until we reached the Laguna Gardens Shopping Mall. The bus did not take its usual route and go pass the shopping mall and on up to turn left for Los Angeles at the Carolina Police Station. Instead it took a detour down Laguna Gardens Avenue before reaching the turn for the Laguna Gardens Shopping Mall. It continued to the Carolina Police Station from the opposite direction to turn right for Los Angeles.

From the police station down to the mall, the road was block. There were many state and Carolina police cars plus motorcycle police. I decided to walk down the sidewalk. I got a little passed the Laguna Gardens Condo complex and was stopped by a police barricade. A middle-aged lady came towards me from the other side of the barricade. She told me that there is a problem that they are working on and I can go no further. She was very polite and identified herself as a federal employee. She was wearing a gray shirt that had a federal insignia on it. I had difficulty seeing it in the dark, but it was typical of the insignia (FBI or U.S. Justice Department???) federal agents wear. She said it may take a couple days. She apologized for the inconvenience. "It could take a couple days to do our work." I asked her what her work was and she said that she could not at this time tell me.

I walked to my condo building and saw our security guard. He told me that three people were murdered earlier today [Monday] in that area. Maybe, that is the reason for the area being investigated. On the police side of the barricade were several official black vans parked in the middle of the Laguna Avenue near the street that heads up to the Shell Gas Station at the western edge of Los Angeles. On a personal note:

When the bus turned down Laguna Avenue, it was going passed my condo. I asked the bus driver to let me off. He would not because he said that there were no bus stops. I told him that of course there was not bus stops because he detoured to a non bus route which would have no bus stops.

He said that he cannot let someone off where there was no bus stop. I insisted that this is an emergency and not a bus route. It has no bus stops. He needed to make emergency decisions depended on the circumstances. Does he plan to not let me off the bus until we hit a possible bus stop in Los Angeles? He was just too dumb and narrow minded to see my reasoning.

I waited until we reached the right turn at the Carolina Police Station. I could see the area around me streaming with police. I yell at the top of my lungs for him to end his stupidity and to stop the bus and let me off. Because I yelled he did, like a little misbehaving boy, as I requested. He had no idea where I was coming from.

I asked several police what was happening. They did no know one word of English. Then, I decided to walk down the sidewalk to the scene of the problem. That is when the federal agent came up to me and talked to me in perfect English. It felt assuring to be talking to an intelligent, professional.

I am now going over to the the Laguna Gardens Shopping Mall again to see if I can learn more about the three murders and this investigation. Are they related? I need to go to SuperMax. It would be unusual if the entire mall is closed off.

If you have any information about this "breaking news," post it on this thread. Thanks.

I am getting conflicting updates. I spoke to the lady with the federal government this morning around 10:30. She told me that it was a training program. However, she was reluctant to give more information. I mentioned the three murders and she avoided commenting. The street was blocked off again but opened around 6 pm. However, half the length of the intersecting streets were barracaded. It looked like men were using equpment that is use to survey a site.

One of my neighbors, who was jogging in the area, told me that she heard that the sercret service (FBI???) were involved and that they were re-establishing a crime scene where a police person was murdered.

I am hoping it will be in tomorrow's local newspapers. There is website to obtain links for these papers. Check the El Nuevo Dia, Vocero, Hora, etc.

Puerto Rico Daily Sun is not on the internet. However, I alerted the senior editor to the above information. I will transcribe facts from the Daily Sun on to Topix if they run with this possible story.

It was not mentioned on last night's local television news.

I received the folloing email from the Editor of the Puerto Rico Daily Sun:

It was a recreation of the murder scene during which acop was killed by mistake last year during a drug sting near the Laguna Gardens entry bridge. It was for investigative purposes, according to our police sources.

In the mid 80s, kids would play around laguana gardens with relative safety. Today I wouldn't let my kids stray past our front door in that place without supervision.
