I just wanted to take the opportunity to point out that there is a "Team Guidi" brand for all the people that Larry can control, and nobody needs to say their names to know who the "Team Guidi Members" are. YET, when people speak about Vargas, Juarez, and English they have to state all of there names to make their point. This is simply explained that you have three INDIVIDUALS who all have good intentions, ideas and direction for our city. These three were all brought together because they have something Guidi and his circus do not, VISION, ETHICS and individual opinions. I urge everyone in this city to take the time research Larry's criminal background, and voting record and you will see Lambert and Catano allways seem to vote the way they are told by "Guido" the Godfather. IT IS TIME TO PUT THE CITY'S FUTURE FIRST before Larry special interest groups, he has made enough extortion money in his tenure to move on to greener pastures.

And Yes I am ready for the un-warranted harassment from Code Enforcement, the building department and everyone else besides the police since Larry cannot use them on his vendetta crew.

Here's the bottomline... Let's get Guidi out of office, let's vote for independent candidates... the only ones I see that have a chance of making a difference are Juarez, Vargas, and English...

Let's stop kidding ourselves... who really wants another term with Guidi?

Is this article about the “seven” candidate running for Hawthorne City Council or just about the “four majority runners”???
I attended both debates and thought every one of the candidates have good reasons for running and good points of view.
I don’t think this article talks enough about all seven candidates.

For somebody to say that my friend Olivia Valentine has relied on Mayor Guidi for her entire campaign is ridiculous. Olivia has been a longtime volunteer in our community. She has raised all her campaign finances through grassroots efforts, including a small community fundraiser this Thursday.

In addition, Olivia and her volunteers have been canvassing every neighborhood in Hawthorne. Her campaign is COMPLETELY grassroots. So what if the Mayor supports her candidacy. I volunteer for Olivia every single day to try to help get her elected, and not once have I even seen the Mayor.

People need to stop making this about slates and groups of people. The fact is that Olivia Valentine has the most experience of any candidate running for City Council. She has served on her HOA board in Holly Park, she has been a Planning Commissioner in our city, and she has 18 years of experience working through the Federal Govt red tape.

I havent seen ANY other candidate walk in my neighborhood in Holly Glen. Not one. But Olivia has walked my neighborhood, and so have volunteers on her behalf.

Lets stop all the attacks now. I've already sent in my ballot for Olivia Valentine - somebody that has run a completely positive campaign. No negative attacks. No hit pieces. No robo calls. A grassroots effort to be proud of.

"Vote For Valentine" you are lying. Her campaign is not grassroots one bit. Sorry, but not one cent of her campaign is from residents. She even admitted at the Holly Glenn Forum that her campaign was financed by contributions from developers, and businesses, and unions (watch the Forum on Channel 22)

She is not grassroots one bit!!

See her campaign statements up to this date from the City of Hawthorne and notice how all her donations come from developers and special interests:

Seniors overwhelming supporting Mayor Guidi, Ms Valentine and Mr Monteiro. They know, from their years of living in the city, that we need more financial responsibility and not more raises for police officers during a time of recession.
They also know that the figures that claim Hawthorne's crime is the worst in the South Bay are completely made up. Even if you read some of these mailers that claim that, there are incongruities throughout them. Sometimes they claim that crime has gone down 3.5% throughout the South Bay, while at the same time showing figures that show its gone down much more than that. Then later the same "3.5 %" is used but now saying Hawthorne crime has gone up that much.
Their source? The Daily Breeze? No dates. No reference to the articles. No reference to the actual study that the Breeze may have quoted. If our police are so interested in protecting us, why cant they give us real substantiated facts about our crime statistics? Dont they have the real data? Or do they rely on a newspaper that has made a living off trashing Hawthorne for decades?
The police union got promised raises by Juarez, Vargas and English. Cut and dry. I've seen the email with my own eyes. Now is not the time to be handing out raises, especially out of our emergency fund which is now at an all time high of $11 million.
I'm voting for:
Larry Guidi for Mayor
Olivia Valentine for City Council
Greg Fallon for City Council
Pat Carey for City Clerk
Help protect our city from the people who claim they will change Hawthorne... a current Councilmember and our current City Clerk who works 50-60 hours a week for a higher politician. Insiders pretending not to be a part of any of Hawthorne's problems.
Larry, You are used to distort facts and lie.
If you say that this is not the time to give raises to the people that protect you very life, why you wanted to give $2.2 million dollars to you buddy developers? How much was the cut $$$ you were going to receive under the table.
Senior and older people are the ones tired of you corruption.
Enough is enough... they want you out for good.

Dear For Sure,
Did you read the blog by Police Officer Chris Cognac? It clearly states that raises was not discussed. That is clear. He validated this fact by using his real name (I checked with the police department and he is on the force) and was present when the interviews took place. Why did Larry not participate? If anyone knows please post.
Your blog states that seniors overwhelming support the Guidi slate. I am a senior and do not support him. I have Mr. Guidi's sign on my lawn. I was pressured to do so and I am too old to fight him. I am scared of this man and I do not want any harm to come to my daughter or her children.
Mr. Guidi started off as a good politian but over the years he has changed in the wrong direction.
Thank you to all the candidates who are running. And good luck.
PS - I would like to use my name but don't want any problems once this blog is read.
Seniors and Old people of Hawthorne
Read this... this is exactly the pressure tactios use by Guidi and his minions: The Chamber of Commerce, etc. Threats and false promises against old people and impressionable folks.
Let's vote for Honest and un corrupted citizens: Juarez, Vargas and English.

The Hawthorne Chamber of Commerce has take an active role in this year's elction. I have seen the President and staff members placing signs around town. The chamber has also endorsed candidates. The chamber does not have a PAC and this action violates their charter and bylaws. Wait a minute, I take it back. They can endorse because the chamber lost i's non-profit status.
How much credance can a busines owner like myself have with the chamber when they do not represent us but the wishes of Gudii.
My membership is paid but I will not be renewing. Shame on you Chamber of Commerce.

Crime HAS gone up and we are in the top 200 worst crime cities in the country according to the FBI. WOW!! There IS a problem and its thanks to the bad decisions that Guidi and friends have made.
I will support Juarez, Vargas and English because all my neighbors support them. Plus, many of my senior friends say its time for change. I can trust those three, I can't trust Monteiro and Valentine since they have depended on Guidi for everythign in this campaign
You better check the stastistics rather than listen to your neighbors. You support whoever because your neighbors support them? Think with your own brain and make your own choices and talk to your neighbors.

And I have checked with the police and the situation is bad. In addition, our neighbors are the ones voting to change things because there is more crime, more gangs, more shootings than there ever were. That's why I am voting for the new group and not Guidi, and his puppets.

Hawthorne Resident - What are the statistics? You called out a blogger for not checking the statistics, but do you know the statistics? If so, please share with everyone so we all can be educated. Besides, if you have a great argument, we would love to hear it. Who knows, you might actually win some votes for Guidi on here.

Hawthorne1 the pressure is on you to prove that there isn't any crime in Hawthorne and that the situation is sooo much better that we need to vote Guidi and his puppets.

Make sure to ask all the people in Holly Glenn who have had their homes burglarized. Make sure to ask the Moneta Gardens residents who are sick and tired of gangs, crime and prostitution. Make sure to ask all the Hawthorne Blvd businesses who have been robbed at gun point in the last year.

Pressure is on you buddy

Response to post #34 - My original post(#33) is not in favor of Guidi - it is a criticism of 'Hawthorne Resident' for telling a poster to check his 'statistics' when 'Hawthorne Resident' has not provided any statistics at all.

I do know that crime is up. Yes, murder is down, but crime overall is up.

That is why I am supporting Juarez, Vargas and English. The are supported by the Police because they know Juarez, Vargas and English will work with them to put a stop to crime. I live in a not so nice neighborhood, so i know about the crime.

Hawthorne1 Wrong - If you would have read my post in more detail, you would have realized I was being sarcastic. Obviously no one here, except Hawthorne Resident and BigAl22, is going to vote for Guidi. Everyone is sick and tired of this mafioso.

I really hope the new Hawthorne School Board gets rid of this clown. A salary of $110,000 a year? for what? To design his mailers and run for re-election every 2 years? THis guy is a joke..
