Maria Antonieta Pons.

Notice the cultural blend in rythm, dress attire/custom, movement between Europe and Western Africa (which comes together in the Caribbean).

Maria Antonieta Pons, reigning queen of Cuba's rythms, during Mexico's cinema's golden era.

Notice that Iris Chacón did not invent any movements known to 1930's, 40's and 50's Cuban mega stars/rumba dancers like Ninón Sevilla and Maria Antonieta Pons; and even Mexico's own Tongolele.

I loved Maria Antonieta; but her films????

She would break into a dance for no apparent reason or demand from the script.

LOL

I think people went to her films to watch her dance and for her body.

The old Cuban men love Chacon she is a big sex symbol to them.

What the late Phyllis Diller was to so many men in Boston , Chacon was to not just Cuban men but hispanic men .
I think she lives in PR and there was talk of a movie about her played by JLO but never heard more than that.

Who cares about what Cuban men love?

This is the Puerto Rico forum.

Why don't you post at the Cuba forum?

Nervous?

Frightened?

What happen to you there?

Well it is all Latino men in general who think of her as a sex symbol.

I think Iris was the last sex symbol (from the 20th century great dancers).

With her, a whole era ended!

I alternate days and what is there EVER to be nervous or frightened about a forum?

"What happen to you there?"

It's fun to chat in other places the Cuba forum is redundant.

I used to go to the Mexico forum as have friends there I know from NY but that place was ruined by redneck trash , so as Goldilocks would say "This forum is just right" and with that Disney moment, I depart for the evening.

So true. Have you heard of Olga Breeskin? She was kind of like Iris Chacon, but Olga played a violin.I think she was an actress and a dancer. She was from Mexico.

Puerto Rico loved Olga, she came here a few times.

Olga was Iris contemporary, but Iris made a crossover to the US and Spain (from Latin America); while Olga couldn't.

But, with them, a whole era ended (at least the mega dancing sex symbols).

There are local ones all over Latin American nations, especially in Argentina, but they are unable to get an international exposure (public changed).
