On Saturday and Sunday in Berlin there was a celebration of the 90th anniversary of the creation of the Union of Poles in Germany (ZPwN) of the Rodlo emblem. Representatives of the Polish authorities, however, did not attend the solemn Holy Mass.

The Poles from the Union and its supporters paid for the organisation of the celebration themselves as they did not receive any help from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Radoslaw Sikorski's Ministry refused to give any money, which, according to the head of the Union, Marek Wojcicki, was to make it impossible to organise the celebration. However, it did take place. The St. John the Baptist Basilica, in which the solemn Holy Mass was said, was packed. The Mass was said by the Legnica bishop, Stefan Cichy, and archbishop Andrzej Dziega. A letter from the Polish Primate, cardinal Jozef Kowalczyk, was read out.

The Polish authorities did not take part in the celebration. Beforehand, representatives of the German and Polish authorities had been said to come. The consul for Poles in Germany, Marek Budka, came but, as he said to the "Gazeta Polska Codziennie," he took part in the celebration privately. He refused to answer why the Polish ambassador had not come to the celebration and had not even sent a letter with greetings to the authorities of the Union. "Please ask the organisers about such issues," said Budka. According to the Union, the Polish embassy in Berlin knew about the celebration but ignored it. "Actually, it was a private celebration but it does not make it impossible to participate in the Holy Mass," stressed Marek Wojcicki in his interview for the "Gazeta Polska Codziennie" daily.

However, who came to Berlin was Anna Fotyga, a Law and Justice MP and the former Minister of Foreign Affairs, as well as Dorota Arciszewska-Mielewczyk, a Law and Justice MP.

Martix there is no reason embassy reps should attend expat events. Private independent organisations may not want to be linked to politics.

The problem is that Union of Poles in Germany is an organisation of the Polish minority in Germany, founded in 1922. The aim of the organisations is the legal representation of Poles, the German citizens of Polish nationality or descent and Polish associations to German authorities.

The Union of Poles in Germany speaks laudly about discriminations of Poles in Germany:

The organisation claims that The Polish–German Treaty of Good Neighbourship and Friendly Cooperation is being broken by German side as regards regulation concerning treating Poles in Germany. On German government's side there is no will to introduce any solutions concerning the execution of the Treaty. There is a huge asymmetry in executing the Treaty to Poles in Germany. German minority in Poland has many privileges, while the Poles in Germany and their social-cultural needs are ignored despite the regulations in the Treaty. Therefore Poles in Germany are discriminated. The status of Polish Minority in Germany is consistently ignored by German authorities.

The Polish government has done almost nothing to change the situation.

Don't you think that this is the real reason?

What does it have to do with the discrimination of Poles in Germany?

PS Who shifted borders? Poles or the Churchil Rosevelt and Stalin?
The Polish Eastern border was also shifted west. We have lost the half of pre-war Polish territory, 160 cities and towns on the East.

Which is why you have a case for discrimination of Poles in places like Belarus, Lithuania and Ukraine.

Poland got better land out of the deal anyways.

Ocean front land in Pomerania in Gdansk - Gdynia - Szczecin

Mining in Silesia near the areas of Wroclaw.

__

Yes, Lwow & Brzesc should be Poland.

__
_

Germans always tried to cut off Poland from the Ocean front in Pomerania to attempt to cut off & destroy Poland.

It is good Poland has Pomerania as it was in the original Poland!

How are they being discriminated?

POles are not forced to be sewer cleaners, dish washers and prostitutes in Germany.

They choose to be such people themselves.

I like it really.
Germans maybe lost Poland but Poles had become Germans slaves anyways.

Did you hear a few months ago Polish people who were in Nazi slave labor camps during WW2 went to Germany for a ceremony?

When a German Neo Nazi pepper-sprayed these Polish people in the face who had been enslaved in Nazi slave labor camps?

That is just completely vile & disgusting.

I understand if perhaps a German doesn't like say a Polish hooligan & stands up to them.

But, standing up to the Elderly Polish who survived Nazi slave labor camps to peper-spray them?

Completely vile & disgusting!

Neo-Nazi pepper sprays Polish WWII survivors

Published: 23 Sep 12 13:54 CET

A neo-Nazi attacked former Third Reich forced labourers and other guests at the inauguration of a memorial near Hamburg on Friday, covering them with pepper spray before being overpowered and arrested.
Seven of the Polish delegates, which included elderly survivors of Hitler’s forced labour policies in Poland, needed hospital treatment after being hit with the pepper spray.

Police arrested a 42-year-old man identified only as Frank A., after the attack at a factory in Bergedorf near Hamburg where forced labourers were used during World War II.

Around 200 guests and families had gathered for the dedication of a memorial, when the Bergedorfer Zeitung newspaper said the well-built man wearing a leather jacket rushed at the people seated in the first row.

He was easily overwhelmed by police and arrested. Police said that the man, known to them as a far-right activist, was also suffering from mental health problems.

"After he had been arrested he appeared very calm," one officer involved in the arrest told the newspaper.

The injured forced labourers in Germany during the war and their relatives, were at the end of a week-long visit, with the unveiling of the memorial intended as a highlight.

"These people should have experienced a belated recognition of their terrible personal story in Germany," said Angelika Schmidt, a local pastor who had been addressing the crowd when Frank A. attacked. "Instead of that, they were once again mistreated."

The Hamburger Morgenpost newspaper reported that the delegation returned home on Saturday. Project leader of the visit programme David Rojkowski said their overall experience of the week had been a good one.

"This terrible incident on the last day cannot overshadow all the good experiences," he said.

Frank A. was recently fined €3,000 for sending extremist literature to imprisoned neo-Nazi Horst Mahler, the newspaper said.

Hal, you are right the problem is that Annie have created off topic I think on purpose.

We are talking about the celebration of the 90th anniversary of the organisation of the Polish minority in Germany, whose members were sent by Germans to German concentrations camaps during WWII and the organisatins was delegalized by Germans (Nazis) and its property was confiscated by the Germans.

The same the status of Polish Minority in germany was delegalized by Nizis and it looks like that the Nazis order has been in effect even today.
