The planned German-Ruussian military manoeuvres for the summer 2013, because of the reservations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which was afraid of the negative reaction from Poland and Balitic states, have been postponed, says "Der Spiegel" weekly.

Der Spiegel says that the German side was shocked by the statements of the Russian Army spokesman, who aggressively announced the manoeuvres of armoured units, helicopters and fighter planes aimed at "destroying terrorists".

Der Spiegel explains that the German-Russian brotherhood of arms, arouses in Poland and Baltic states bad memories, which comes from the Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact in 1939 and the partitioning of the territories of the states between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union.

The German Ministry of Defence claims that the manoeuvres will take place with a year delay - in 2014.

The cooperation between Bundeshwer and the Russian Army has lasted since 2006. At Mulino near Nizhniy Novgorod on the Volga, the German armaments concern Rheinmetall is building the new Russian Federation army training centre equipped with the live combat simulation system.

During Gerhard Schroeder government (1998-2005), which was conducting the "partnership for modernization" of Russia, the cooperation between Moscow and Berlin was strengthened significantly. Recently, more and more often Russia is criticized, especially because of breaking human rights in the country.

Still... If anything Russia would probably end up with a Cuban Missle Crisis situation over Poland.
I mean it is unlikely that Russia is foolish enough to invade Poland directly.
Given that Russia today is far weaker against the U.S than it was in Soviet era.
...
.... Still... A war with Russia is a potential concern.
As is Gerany.... Don't let Germany fool you.
Poland in the 1930's was epecting more of a Soviet invasion rather than a Nazi German one.
...
..... Even despite Poland saving Germans in the Battle of Vienna in 1683 the Germans just a matter of decades had invaded Poland in the Partitions.
As the history (last 300 years) shows the biggest danger was from the East. Russian Partition was the largest (covered 82% of the Polish territories, and the situation of Poles in the Russian partition was the worst, then without the Soviet Union friendship and pact with the Nazi Germany there would't have been the 1939 (the IV partition of poland), the Polocaust, Holocaust and criminal forced by Moscow puppet communist regime in Poland from 1945 to 1989. There would be about 60-80 mln Poles now not 38 mln as at present.

PS After WWII about 10 mln Poles were missing not 4 mln as you sugested. Official data are about 6 mln but they don't include Poles who lived in the Eastern pre-War Polish territories (50% of the territories landed in the Soviet hands after the WWII)

But.... There is some big differences.
That Catherine the Great was a German born in Germany to German parents who was behind the Russian partitions.
Furthermore the German (Prussian)(Austrian) partitions came about after Polish people went out of their way to save them in 1683 in the Battle of Vienna.
While Poland had attacked Russia in 1610 first.
....
...... Same goes for in WW2.... Not only did Nazi Germany kill more Polish Catholics & destroy more of Poland's cities.. Steal more of Poland's wealth.
Again we see Poland didn't attack Germany like Poland had attacked Soviets.

Conflicts with Germany and Russia started much earlier than in 1610 ;)

So far we are in NATO and we dont have a strategy to leave it (maybe except for president Komorowski ;), so we should cooperate within NATO. We simply dont have other choice.

Yeah, so much for the common European (meaning: within EU) defensive solutions, coordination, planning and all that bollocks. Good ol' buddies start reaching and shaking hands over us again.

Talking about Bundeswehr, it's made it to some headlines recently:

Martix, we have more imminent dangers, I mean from within and the Germs. I'm more concerned with domestic downfall and Germs buying land in our west like there was no tomorrow than paying attention to Russian mind games. Aren't You?

Russians & Germans had been reaching out in the form of a gas pipe-lines for years before this!
But... This only shows a esculation between Russia & Germany working together.
...
.... I got to wonder why so many Russians think Germans are their allies after Germans had killed millions of Russians in both world wars!?
Is this an idiocy!?
Or what!?
Is there some kind of propaganda in Russia to support the Germans!?
It really makes little sense to why Russians would be so supportive of Germans after 2 world wars.
...
.......
......... But.... Russia had long been German influenced.... The Tsars of Russia were really German since 1700's.
i read that 30% of the Tsars officials were Baltic Germans!
Today.... Still some Germans hold power in Russia.
Like that German Russian Alexey Miller in charge of Gazprom.
Yes, the Russian and German (Prussian) ways had had quite in common and the two had romanced in the past. They do that these days too. It started full-steam during G. Schroeder's term.
An average Russian has always had little to say in politics and country's policies, and given it little thought or detailed interest - anyway, less than in the West. Be it during "samodzierzawie", communism or today. If the ruler does it, it must be good for the country. Period. Always done what they've been told - I'd say they've had comparably less historical, remeberance awarness than other European nations. Whatever disaster has hit them, they pass over it lightly. It's not like Putin has to face massive nationwide objection or discontent over cooperating with Germany.

Russians (Muscovites) haven't been Slavic - neither by origin nor their ways. By blood it's been much closer to the Uralics (so, the Ugro-Finns too) and by their ways to Asia (Tatars and such).
