Philippines is 'best macro-economy story in the world'-- RCM

Feb. 5, 2013 (yes, it was published today)

“It’s the best macro economy story in the world,” Religare Capital Markets Ltd (RCM) managing director John Sturmey said during a briefing on Tuesday.

“The Philippines is on top of our list. We see Philippines [growth as] sustainable. Politically, we have a lot of confidence in the administration,”,” Sturmey said, referring to President Benigno Aquino III.

World Bank heaps praise on Philippines: From sick man of Asia to 'rising tiger'

After being the region's economic laggard for years, the Philippines is now earning much praise in Asia because of its impressive economic growth and good governance, the World Bank said on Tuesday.

"The Philippines is no longer the sick man of Asia, but the rising tiger," Motoo Konishi, World Bank country director for the Philippines, said during a videolink media conference at the culmination of the Philippine Development Forum in Davao.

"There is macroeconomic stability. The government's finances are sound and improving," Konishi said.

But aside from the record economic growth, Konishi also praised the Aquino administration's campaign to weed out corruption.

He's only allowed to serve six year term. His mother changed the Constitution instead of 12 years . He said the next President must be brush up properly to maintain the Philippines economy. He's number one priority is wipe out all kinds of Corruption in the Philippines. Then all the Philippine Military and Philippine National Police will be align in One VOICE. Then he wants to get rid off all the Private Armies that only protect the crook Politicians. etc. etc. Private armies is a waste of money .

I am hardly 'playing both sides'.

Is it too difficult to handle the truth about your nation? I realize that for many it is far better to blindly pledge allegiance to nationalistic sentiment. Manny Pacquiao was elected because of that stupidity.

I merely pointed out some things that need to be rectified before the Philippines steps out of the third world. Take a peek at these and tell me if they are not issues:

1) Squatters who set up a 'home' on someone else's land.
2) Burning garbage wherever one wants.
3) Dumping waste into the waterways/
4) Stealing utilities - Meralco, cable, phone, water, etc.
5) Driving without regards to the rules of the road - lights and signs are mere suggestions to them.
6) Driving when your plate is restricted by simply swapping out to a fake, using a LOST PLATE sign or attempting to use a commemorative one.
7) Bawal Umihi Dito Multa signs - enough said.
8) Dynamite and cyanide fishing your waters.
9) Selling your vote for a trike tarp, phone card, hot lunch, etc.
10) Trapos/Trillanes/Pacquiao - voting for these stooges is a huge problem.
11) Accepting that corruption is cultural - bribery and estafa are not things to be valued.
12) Counterfeiting everything!
13) OFWs - they single handedly destroy the best thing about the Philippines - family values.
14) Iglesia ni Culto, El Shaddai, Roman Catholic Church and the myriad variants - reliance on religious leadership is a sign of insecurity. Block voting, tithing, ignorance of birth control and allowing religious leaders to live lavishly is sad.
15) The God will provide mantra.
16) A failure to build infrastructure that will entertain tourists and create jobs.

There, that's a good start. Tell me again how these things are not happening and how it is unfair to point them out in a Philippine Forum.

MANILA, Philippines—Hounded by criticism that economic growth has not resulted in jobs, President Aquino said on Tuesday that jobs have always been available, but that job applicants have not been able to provide the skills required for employment.

The President said that job postings at the Phil-JobNet website have risen to 230,000, up from 40,000 when he assumed the presidency in June 2010. He said there were only 117,000 applicants.

Clearly, Aquino said, the gap between the number of jobs available and applicants was a sign that some job-seekers lacked the skills required of the jobs.

"Hence, the need for schools and training institutions to update students about the trends of employment and train them to be attuned to these by equipping them with the necessary skills, he said.

“So we will try our best to know about the job prospects—not today, but two years, four years from now—and inform the students to make sure what they’re taking up matches the job opportunities,” he said.

The President said job creation has always been the administration’s focus, but admitted that he has ordered a review of a government survey on job creation during the past two and a half years.

“During the campaign, my first promise was job creation. So there’s actually a meeting being scheduled to assess all that has been done for the past two and a half years,” he said.“The statistics being trumpeted didn’t make that much sense to me when I was reviewing it. So I said the collection should be fine-tuned, so we can better address the problem and offer better solutions.’’

Aquino said he could not see why the government survey showed the unemployment rate going down when each year brought in a fresh batch of 1 million job-seekers and only an average of 860,000 jobs were being created, leaving a difference of 140,000."

When the cost of getting the training far out-weighs the salary you will receive and the fact that most likely the job you will get is through an agency that takes 1/3 of your salary -its hardly motivating.
