The Greater Malayan Confederation,[1] or Maphilindo (for Malaya, the Philippines, and Indonesia), was a proposed nonpolitical confederation of those countries.

The original plan for a united state based on the concept of the Malay race was attempted by Wenceslao Vinzons during the Commonwealth government in the Philippines. There he espoused a United Malay race his Malaya Irredenta ideal (Malaya Irredenta was another name for Maphilindo). Also, Eduardo L. Martelino- of the famed Jabidah- in his book entitled "Someday, Malaysia" that was published in 1959, also cited the vision of then Philippine President Manuel L. Quezon for an integrated Malay-race nationhood in the region.

In July 1963, President Diosdado Macapagal of the Philippines convened a summit meeting in Manila. Maphilindo was proposed as a realization of Jose Rizal's dream of bringing together the Malay peoples, seen as artificially divided by colonial frontiers.

Maphilindo was described as a regional association that would approach issues of common concern in the spirit of consensus. However, it was also perceived as a tactic on the parts of Jakarta and Manila to delay, or even prevent, the formation of the Federation of Malaysia. Manila had its own claim to Sabah (formerly British North Borneo),[citation needed] and Jakarta protested the formation of Malaysia as a British imperialist plot. The plan failed when Sukarno adopted his plan of konfrontasi with Malaysia. The Konfrontasi, or Confrontation basically aims at preventing Malaysia to attain independence. The idea was inspired onto President Sukarno by the Partai Komunis Indonesia (PKI), or literally the Indonesian Communist Party. The party convinced President Sukarno that the Formation of Malaysia is a form of neo-colonization and will later affect tranquility in Indonesia. The subsequent development of ASEAN almost certainly excludes any possibility of the project ever being revived.

The idea is not feasible because, Indonesia is not malay and Philippines is Christian with its own language, Malay govt wont agree because that means Malay will be minority. There's too much diversity to make the area one country. It'll break up like Yugoslavia in a decade.

to malaysia and indonesia maybe could be realized because they have the same language and religion but for the Philippines its would be difficult.

I don't understand the comparison. Mexico, Canada and USA aren't a single country, you know?
Not to mention that both Canadians and Americans are strongly opposed to forming Unions between countries and that Mexico is actually looking to Chile, Peru, and Colombia for integration.

That's only true when two countries have a huge gap between their per capita incomes, which explains the choice of countries I mentioned as the per capita incomes (nominal) of said countries range somewhere between 7000 and 14000.
In any case these unions don't always fully abolish immigration requirements between the member countries. They just allow you to stay a number of days without a passport before either having to go back to your country or applying for a visa. That's intended as a way to promote tourist, investment, and exchanges of highly skilled workers between the member countries.
The same could also be said of a union between USA and Canada because they have similar per capita incomes, cultures, and even demographic compositions. But, like I said, the idea is really unpopular over there.

Maphilindo is equivalent to the North American Union which Canada, USA and Mexico will have one economy and Currency patterned after EU.

I honestly believe that if you want to create a regional union you should take cues from real life unions, like the European Union. The first thing you'll notice is that common currencies are a bad thing to have (specially in the middle of a economic crisis).

i think " austronesian " would be the right term for its not "malay". it would be a nice idea if these 3 austronesian countries will unite together as one sovereign nation but retaining the autonomy of each state politically, similar with the united kingdom with its component countries: england, scotland, wales, & northern ireland.

all of this uniting of countries and the fils wanting to become a state of the USA or China or anyone is that the flips realizing they are hopelessly unable to run their own country and are sadly willing to give control to anyone that will bear their burden of failure.
flips have gotten broken down so mentally and emotionally that they dont even want to THINK.

after what has happened during this election i cant say that i blame them.

I'm sure filipinos are so desperate that they are even willing to be administered by the more capable government of Guam.

Due to ASEAN you can stay in any South East Asia country for 30 days WITH passport. Its almost the same and its better than having to apply visa etc.

in Malaysia the per capita is 17000 and Philippines I think is 5000 and Indonesia is 4000, the GDP is just too wide for Malaysia to beneficially join these countries.

minimum wage in Malaysia is 900 ringgit=usd 300 , I don't know how much it is in Indonesia or Philippines, but I know for a fact wage in Indonesia is very cheap. Like this one news about kitchen appliance that only pays workers one dollar a day that just recently came in the news from Indonesia. I don't think the minimum wage is even enforced.

And Malaysia only have like 25 millions population, Indonesia 250 millions and Philippines 100 millions. See why we're afraid of a 'union' here?

I don't even see Singapore wanting to join us for economical reason and nor do we because we're having good business right ow and if Singapore joined again, it'd just ruin that because the government is too slow. And they'll just install their people over there.

Thailand I can see a union, but the language, they don't even speak English and their GDP still need a bit of catching up. But union with Thailand means cheap cars, cheap rice and nice beach.

Well, Malaysia are not only consist of 'Austronesian' race, Chinese is 35%, Indian 10%, Indigneous 5%, Malay 50%. And me myself is Indian and afraid of this union because the minority will even be more marginalized.

Malaysia already have 4 language recognized, Malay the national language, English, Mandarin and Tamil and a union, whose language will be used!? I'm guessing Filipinos don't want to let go of their language, and Malay don't want to learn Filipino language.

Indonesia have 300 languages in itself and its size only makes it more difficult to control.

And if you compare the union to the UK its different because UK has been together for 300 years, if we were to set up a union like now, it's going to break apart like Yugoslavia which's a better example than UK due to different demographic, culture and religion.

Besides Philippines drive on the wrong side of the road

The only ones who will benefit from this union are the smart races. Because the chinese, indian, and european businessmen of the 3 countries will combine and will have more people and territories to exploit. More Jollibee restaurants offering localized kosher foods will appear throughout Maphilindo.

Then perhaps the virgin islands are the most ideal for not being peopled by rednecks and lower races.
