Indeed it would be prudent here to discuss the historical basis of religions instead rather than biased, bigoted superficial claim at monopoly of 'truth' that RDT is portraying. It even turned out his long held manipulation on religion must need further scrutiny after all in the light of historical basis for deceit may even be lurking after erroneous claims of monopolizing truth for obvious political, economic, imperial reasons of their agenda thru the centuries, ultimately vioctimizing Humanity with the ulterior intent at controlling and exploiting them even to the point of reducing the Human Being to sheeple mentality.

Visionary,
People are having keen interest in fighting for religions, without knowing the true essence of it. That's why I just mentioned 'no need to discuss'. Instead of the word religion we can use culture. Hinduism is culture rather than a religion. Many ideologies you can see including atheism in Hinduism. It's not 'A' culture, it is different cultures but with a common feature, wisdom.

Once I mentioned why Magellan used the word 'Indio'? Remember, before landing in Philippines, Magellan was working in India. I believe our ancestors were sharing culture. And it was a great culture. Knowing about own cultural values will make the people proud about themselves. If they are thinking they were nothing before Spaniards, they will be nothing always.

Thank you, bornleader, for correcting an error in my post. I do not claim to be an expert or to have an avid interest in Hindu mythology or it's literature.

I will have more time in the next few days to better respond to VisionaryDink's clueless assertions. I apologize for not having the time to adequately rebut presently.

You are welcome brother,

Ha ha, so you are researching to respond (i think its reply!) to visionary's comments that you believe as 'clueless'. I read both of your comments. Interesting informations-hypotheses-etc are coming out. Certainly there are certain things that we can 'assume' as true. But it can be false also. Whatever, let us openly express our opinions without throwing mud.

In true sense there are only two sides in this discussion (not argument!). 1. Renaming of the nation will help in boosting the moral and patriotic feelings of people. 2. Renaming will not bring anything new to the psycho of the people. Let us stick to the topic. I am in the first group with Visionary and others. Being a marketing person I strongly believe in 'branding' and 'packaging'. Along with that 'product' should be improved (Did you check new AOL? Howz that?) Here I see the same strategy in a large scale that will awaken the people knowing the true spirit of heritage. Here nobody is against foreigners and modernization. But many are against westernization.

RDT,
Knowing about other religions are good. It can make one respects other beliefs. When I have seen few Muslims attitude towards other religions I sat and read Qua-ran. Once I was an anti-Muslim. Now I am not. If we go through history of religions we can see, few mad priests and monks were fighting like dogs. One best example is Crusades. Thousands of Muslims killed by Crusaders. Did they know the ism of Christianity? Like that see the present condition. Many Muslim militants all over world playing with bombs. They cannot accept each and every particle of this universe is a part of Supreme Power*(*Read as, God for believers; simply Universe for atheists).

Not researching, but the time necessary to sit down and properly rebut his incorrect assertions. I just wish to be thorough given the tone I've now begun to denigrate his opinions.

As far as these threads go, there are not enough posters in this thread to side track the discussion from the topic. We might as well just allow the discussions to go where they lead, but your point is well taken.

I'm not sure I get the distinction between Westernization and modernization? In what you do you seem them as distinct? I think I know the point to which you were alluding, but I would prefer to let you explain.

It will be interesting to search the word 'jesus christ in india' in google. There is a Hollywood film based on this researches 'Jesus in India'. RDT you don't need to go through Indian Literature, just read Bible. Now you know the secret 'Trinity'! Enough, you touched Indian literature somewhere!(Even an Indian can't read millions of hymns and mantras!)

RDT,
Give me time to clearly define Westernization and Modernization. Its having an intertwining. But India-China-UAE like countries going forward with Modernization with less westernization. Japan-Philippines (Especially metros)like countries along with Modernization Westernized very much. Westernization is a cultural invasion. Modernization is part of industrialization and democracy. More explanation required. Now its 2.00 AM here. Good night and take care!

maharlika when translated in simple words means "big penis". this is an expression use by the malay people for a baby boy who was born with big you know what. and yes, marcos did try to change the name of the country to Maharlika and send a team to research for the true meaning of the word and after finding out the truth, marcos immediately cancelled the plan never to speak about it again...

you need to backread. Those scholarly blokes that blasphemed the name were very irresponsible and the wrose part is some suck up to it hook, line and sinker. the blokes claimed Maharlika came from Sanskrit "maha" (great, noble) and "linggam" (male genitalia) when it's obviously far from the word. The nearest was actually MAHA and LEKHA (work, creation) that even tagalog coined its word "likha" from it. Therefore Maharlika means GREAT CREATION. yuo should sue you school if they keep poisoning with their errors. Ask from what wrods Maharlika may be nearer from whether "linggam" or LEKHA and an idiot will choose the former.

Besides, it turned out that the word MAHARLIKA may have been embedded deep in the subconscious among those individuals awakened with it. Further research revealed that it may even originate from a very ancient and the richest and most powerful among supposed 7 subcontinents of ancient MU, named MAHARLOKA (Great Land) and it was said to be once located right where this archipelago is located said to be hundreds of thousands of years ago. Further evidence of the existence of this very ancient continent (much older than Atlantis) had been discovered with a strange ancient submerged city with seeming pyramid-like structures and even a large sculpture of a human face somewhat similar to those found among ancient american indian cities! It can be found in the waters of Yonaguni, Japan.

you're getting to be aware about it, that's why it's not suprising why we are inherently cosmopolitan in outlook, more diplomatic (i.e. preferring dialogues, rally, etc. over wars), and (despite the continuing corruptive influences especially by fascist manipulated american puppet media)we are aware of our inherent civility such that among Tagalogs, the word "po" and "opo" is unique in itself. Because deep in the recesses of our Consciousnes, we had been there. We were once the most powerful in our Planet, and with much learning, wisdom from lessons in life in both its light and dark sides, in comfort and hardships, that we as Maharlikans are called for, we will be again. There is a yet to be awakened part within us, the Maharlikan Consciousness, that will lead us back to the great glory of our Past and into our brighter Future, if we only listen, and despite the shortcomings and even attempts to pull us down, we may be the key to the betterment of Humanity.

Remember, Maharlikans are also warriors and we must continue the fight and struggle for ours and Humanity's betterment. With awareness and knowledge and wisdom and those GREAT WORKS that we are called for, awaken the Maharlikan within in every thing that we do, and nobody can take it away from us.

Yeah, that's why i found it funny that they want to name their country after the word.
What is even funnier that they think everything will improve once they change the name!
Please, for now, just try to educate and make job opportunities for your fellow countrymen so they won't have to illegaly migrate here cleaning toilets!

the Sanskrit word you're referring is "linggam" and not LEKHA, you people are just too attached to the penis thing, just try to get out of the closet but just make ya ain't fugly or it could make one throw up.

what's funnier is when obviously you folks just don't get get the basics of the complex process for change in an equally complex situation in this country that especially you as a foreigner will be incapable of comprehending. Besides, you seem clueless as to how your country was named, i.e. to epitomize the Malay race, I see you would still be clueless how it would affect what if in case your country be renamed akin to something like "Britain's doormat."

Furthermore, neither will the complex problems of this nation be resolved by having a mindset of putting one's brain into the belly. It's not as simple as that over here.

to give you a hint, unlike your country where yours mostly belong to the mainland hence the geographical proximity with each other, in our country it is composed of a staggering 7,107 archipelagic islands with more than a hundred dialects and hundreds more of tribes and cultures, you simply cannot comprehend much with your Malaysian mind the geopolitics here. May I sincerely suggest that you refrain from acting as if you knew how to handle our situation here, frankly it's simply beyond your capacity.
