During my stay in the Philippines, my wife and I are privileged to being able to do some island-hoppings. Everywhere we went, be it to Boracay, Negros, Bohol, Balamban, Luzon, I could not help but notice the influence of the American culture. Not only every hotel receptionist speaks English, but radios and tv programming are in English. Young and older Filipinos sing along songs in English. Young Filipino singers and performers perform in the English language. In every restaurant, every department store, every open marketplace, the English language is used. So far, according to what I been reading, it appears that a segment of the Filipinos perceive the Americans are inconsequential to the Philippines. If this is the case, why do Filipinos continue using American songs on their radios, television proramming and why the enjoy sing-along American songs, and why the young Filipinos artists keep performing, using the English Language and not the Chinese language, considering that Chinese have been here for thousands of years as opposed to the Americans.

How can you like all of that about Americans and at the same time consider them as inconsequential and unwanted? This kind of attitude depicts people who live their lives with dire contradictions and hypocrisy. The heavy veil of hypocrisy needs be removed.

2bornot,

Filipinos can't deny the fact that the American influence is here to stay. The parallel state of confusion occurring in a social structure is prevalent.

Sassie TX,
Do you notice that there are a number of posters here who live in plain denial. Perhaps they feel comforted in their own encapsulated world. Have you read Robert's statement above? I wonder whether s/he ever visited the Philippines for even just one day. S/he would have felt the American influence. On the contrary, then we would have an individual who is unaware of his or environment. The truth is the truth.

not only that many Filipinos calls Caucasians as "Americano". much worst they call black people as "neg ro" no one calls then Black American or Black Australian etc etc.
you are correct the only country they know is America and they don't even know that it's not a country but a continent.
they also have the culture of "imported mentality" they reckon anything imported must be good and from America. they have the understanding that if imported from America is quality and anything local is inferior.

Robert,

These are your words, "there is no american influence in the phillipines and there never was. they only come here for there sexual fantasies which is child pornography.."

Are you honest with yourself? I don't mean to insult anyone, but let's be frank about this:

1. Have you ever read anything page of the Philippines History?
2. Were you ever aware that the the Philippines was once occupied by United States of America?
3. Were you ever aware that the scond language of the Philippines Republic is English?

4. Are you aware that the soldiers who are providing security in Southern Philippines and many parts of this country are Filipino soldiers in conjuction with American soldiers?

5. Are you aware that the forces that patrol the waters of the Phlippines are Filipinos and Americans patrolling forces?

This is your testimony in the face of the world that Americans are here only for sexual fantasies?

We like American culture, that's why we speak English. We speak English because it makes us feel superior and American despite being poor. This is also why we love to go to America and try to get an American to fall in love with us and marry us. We like love. This is a good thing.

Robert,

You said, "Why are you basing things on history? History means nothing outside your own culture!! There called foreigners and foreigners are all known to take over something that you dont always notice!! Its called brain washing!!"

You called Americans "foreigners who are knoon to talke something that you dont always notice.!" Wow! How ungrateful is your statement. I am confident that you do not represent all Filipinos because not all of them are ungrateful like you. The Americans fought the Spaaniards and on top of that paid them billions to eliminate their dominance entirely from the Philippines. The Americans fought fierecely the Japanese soldiers, and with the guiding hands and expertise of General MacArthur, the Philippines were deliberated from the grips of the Japanese army.

If it were not for the Americans, there is no questions, that Filipinos, including 'you" would have spoken Japanese language today, and been under the commands of the Japs today. You would have listened to the Japanese music on your radios and tv sets every day instead of American music that you listen every day in your life everywhere in the Philippines.

It's a shame that "knowledge" is lacking where it should be in abundance, and that's a shame. It's not a shame though to learn history, and history does not lie.

Please, I am not a disgusting Chink, nor am I a flat-nosed native pango with dark skin. I like to speak American English because it makes me feel superior to other Filipinos. It also makes me feel as if I'm American and rich.
