With so many supposedly intelligent and educated Filipinos how come how they elect the same people over and over again? It has become rediculous with Manny Pacman's wife running for vice-governor, others associated with corruption unashamedly offering themseles for Mayor, Congresswoman, and other local and national positions. What's wrong with the Philippines? Small countries in the world have gone through with several good politicians through the years but experienced better result. The Philippines revolve around the same DNA of politicians or their families and end up with the same problem of graft and corruption. Where are the good people in business, educational institutions, civic groups and the literary worlds?

read what ramos has to say. read what the UN has to say about your country.

now you have a new cyber bill that your president is fully behind. why?

more now than ever the people are afraid to speak for fear of being dragged out of their homes and to disappear.

nothing has changed in the filipins. nothing, only it has been given the veil of celebrity which easily blinds an ignorant population who has been educated from the tv and adore and idolize the thieves and murderers.

90 million sheep , but only a few willing to shed their blood for those millions of sheep?

today marks the day of the new cyber bill going into law. look for your freedoms in another country and look for your people to begin being arrested.

surely your politicians are very eager to exterminate their detractors.

mr. sotto has single handedly turned the history of the filipns back into the dark ages all because of his foolish and arrogant pride.

the adolescence of the filipino politicians mentality combined with unlimited wealth makes them very dangerous children indeed.

The Philippines, a nation of nice but sheepish people. The country is loaded with uninformed sheep who can't seem to comprehend fighting back and/or standing up for what's right. Filipinos tend to idolize and embrace celebrity, opressors, and insignificant materials.

A new mindset is needed, however it appears to be way off in a distant future.

The Spanish colonizer must be commended for a job well done at inculcating in Filipino culture how to be subservient.

I agree with all your comments but there's no need to perpetuate bad practices. If the country has to come out from its persistent problems then there must be a determine effort to break out from them.
This tradition started way back ( as most of us recognized ) the colonial times but they can be broken. Recognition is one aspect, then action is the next. Rep. Angara of Quezon proudly announced that there's nothing wrong with political dynasty. That comment reflects his ignorance or boundless superego. Either he doesn't know of how bad political dynasty has done to the progress or political maturity of the country or he believes that his DNA is the best in the entire Quezon province. It's no different from the old rulers of the empires of Rome and Egypt where intermarriages existed under the false belief of blood superiority. In the end it destroyed the empires.

If this forum can help bring the idea to the people of the country then so be it. We might just be a few but the repecussion could be tremenduous. Ours might just be a trickle at the very start but eventually if it keeps on moving then it might form into a deluge. So let's keep on talking and disseminating the idea of how political dynasty can breed graft and corruption in the country.

pilipinos are educated but most of them are idiots and have colonial mentality. thats why its better just to crossbreed with the americans, koreans, japanese, australians, and chinese and eliminate juan de la cruise. this is the only solution to progress.

Amen brother. Sotto threw a temper tantrum when he was busted for plagiarizing so now talk bad about him and you go to jail. Very true, how can they exhibit such childish behavior.

This law makes it impossible to run against a candidate without going to jail.

Filipinos embraces more celebrities than any country in the world. Filipinos embraces British celebrities, US celebrities and filipino celebrities. No. 1, fact.

As others have mentioned, this bad tradition is a carry over from the past and changing the habit is not easy to do. Imagine, over 400 years of Spanish control and even before that during the pre-colonial period the Philippines society was a class society. The subjects follow the dictates of their rulers. This practice is continued at the present times. We let the elite few control the government casting our destiny with them and perpetuating the evil cycle of political dynasties.

Before the Spaniards came to the Philippines we already have a Barangay System coming from the word Balanghay the which is the smallest unit of government and it is still being used until now and the Philippines has even Laws which is the Code of Maragtas.

The Filipinos should not elect those who does not have brains. They should elect someone who could help them improve their lives and not one who enriches himself or herself in office. But then the people could impeach these elected officials anytime if they do serious crimes to the people.

Filipinos should not also vote for politicians who graduated from Ateneo Law School because they tend to be the most corrupt.

if 60M of the 92M are useful people, then there's nothing wrong. If it happens to be the opposite, well that's what Philippines at present.
