"First of all, it's NUMERAL system. Second of all, how has this contributed to the advancement of humankind?? Has it made all of our lives easier?? Would civilization be in tatters without it?? Nope."

- We wouldnt be civilized without it stupid, all the hard sciences NEED the number ZERO. They also invented the NUMERICAL System and quite a few so thanks for asking. See if you can get your coconut around the binary system LOL.

"Again, how has religion contributed to society apart from division or religious war?? You'll also notice that as society has advanced more and more, it has become less and less religious (going by trends)"

No the word was invented by the Greeks not the science. Nice Wiki phail dopey, I wrote one of my masters final papers on this topic so please feel free to dig yourself deeper into your hungi pit.

"This is perhaps the only area you were right. But Europeans definitely have the upper hand in this area over Indians. Hell, they INVENTED the hard sciences. Maybe this is why you kiss their a$$ now??:)"

- No Europeans didnt invent the hard sciences, please try harder or learn to read.

"Now how in the world was this important to the advancement of humankind?? I'm curious to see your explanation for this one. I find it both hilarious and strange that you bag some Polynesians for being proud that their ancestors who were considered the best sea-voyagers in history yet you bring up food."

Think "Liberal Arts" cuisine was one of the first by definition. Don't hate because the furthest your cuisine evolved is salt and pepper.

LOL@ your primitive ancestors being considered the best sea voyagers! They were stuck in one ocean like an Asian trying to steer through a round about.

Why do you bother when I am clearly more educated and MUCH smarter than you (from birth as in Im genetically intellectually superior and you know it)

So what was your major? "Pacific Studies"?? haha

"We wouldnt be civilized without it stupid, all the hard sciences NEED the number ZERO. They also invented the NUMERICAL System and quite a few so thanks for asking."

First of all, the concept of 'Zero' was not invented by an Indian you idiot. No one really knows where it came from originally...

http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm...
"It first came to be between 400 and 300 B.C. in Babylon, Seife says, BEFORE developing in India, wending its way through northern Africa and, in Fibonacci's hands, crossing into Europe via Italy."

As you can see India was not the first to develop 'Zero'. The SYMBOL for zero however was introduced by an Indian (Brahmagupta) but that doesn't mean he invented it. And for the last time, it's NUMERAL system not 'numerical (can't even get that right LOL). And the only numeral system invented in India was the Hindu-Arabic system. There is much more than one numeral system moron - Babylonian, Egyptian, Roman, Mayan etc...
(All of the systems I just listed were invented before the Hindu-Arabic system by the way)

"No the word was invented by the Greeks not the science. Nice Wiki phail dopey, I wrote one of my masters final papers on this topic..."

Metaphysics was invented by Aristotle you idiot so don't attempt to hide it. Show me anything to show that an Indian had any part to play in the origin of Metaphysics or else STFU.

"Think "Liberal Arts" cuisine was one of the first by definition."

Yes I know it's an art, tell me something I don't know - like how it has contributed to the advancement of mankind for starters. That was my original question but it seems you're trying to avoid giving a PROPER answer.

"No Europeans didnt invent the hard sciences, please try harder or learn to read."

You're kind of right. Astronomy wasn't invented by the Greeks, but they sure as hell made more contributions to it than any other ancient people. Europeans have made more contributions to all of the sciences than Indians ever have. Is that why you strive to be more like them?? Do you even try to bleach your skin too?? Ahahahaha...

"LOL@ your primitive ancestors being considered the best sea voyagers! They were stuck in one ocean like an Asian trying to steer through a round about."

Not only do you need lessons on how to be funny, you downplay the achievement of the Polynesian voyagers as nothing. They made it from South East Asia to the Islands and all the way to South (and possibly North) America. Many people would not dismiss that as nothing, so quit hating...

The numbers 1-9 & 0 were invented in India BY INDIANS.

I was or we were to be precise talking about metaphysics and now you have confused it with astronomy. You do realize how stupid that makes you look right?

Show me ONE thing that Polynesians contributed to mankind, just ONE. For all your glorious sea voyages no one has used one piece of you maritime technology to make major sea voyages. NOT ONE.

Sucks to be you huh?

Yup and because of them Fiji had a stronger economy and dollar than its anglo run neighbors while the Indians were in power. Look up Fiji's economy during the early to mid 80's and feel utterly humiliated.

Pretty awesome right? thats something your people could never achieve in a million years.

All you do is present juvenile philosophical arguments based on net based learnings.

Try completing an under grad degree and then come and argue with me.

See you in a million years LOL

Au contraire... the SYMBOLS for 1-9 & 0 was invented in India, not the actual numbers themselves you idiot. The Mayans had numbers 1-9 and 0 but they only had different symbols for them ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Maya.svg ). Is this too difficult for you to understand?? LOL...

"Show me ONE thing that Polynesians contributed to mankind, just ONE."

Are you so insecure that you need to compete with us on contributions?? Polynesian voyagers crossing the Pacific may not have 'contributed' but was still considered a great accomplishment nevertheless - no matter how much you try to dismiss it. You must feel very intimidated by the Europeans which is why you wouldn't dare compete with them. Well news flash moron, my mother is European. And Europeans have 'contributed' to mankind MUCH more than Indians. Which means I am superior to you right?? Sucks to be you huh?? Ahahahahahaha...

What are you talking about?? I didn't confuse either of them, I said that Greeks (or A Greek, to be more precise) invented Metaphysics, and contributed to Astronomy more than any other ancient people. And I was right on both counts so again, what are you talking about??

How does that defeat my position?? It says that Indian mathematicians contributed to mathematics. Did I say anything to the contrary in my previous posts?? No I didn't. And where does it say that Indians invented the numbers 1-9 and 0?? It doesn't. So thanks for shooting yourself in the foot dummy :)

P.S. Wikipedia as an 'academic source'?? LMAO You're kidding me right. It's fine to use Wiki here on Topix but please don't cite it as academic. It makes you look even more stupid, which is an accomplishment in itself LOL...

"Indian mathematics emerged in the Indian subcontinent[1] from 1200 BC [2] until the end of the 18th century. In the classical period of Indian mathematics (400 AD to 1200 AD), important contributions were made by scholars like Aryabhata, Brahmagupta, and Bhaskara II. The decimal number system in use today[3] was first recorded in Indian mathematics.[4] Indian mathematicians made early contributions to the study of the concept of zero as a number,[5] negative numbers,[6] arithmetic, and algebra.[7] In addition, trigonometry[8] was further advanced in India, and, in particular, the modern definitions of sine and cosine were developed there.[9] These mathematical concepts were transmitted to the Middle East, China, and Europe[7] and led to further developments that now form the foundations of many areas of mathematics."
