It's nice to learn that some iconic Australian art will be shared with UK viewers. Usually Australia seems to be the passive recipient of exhibitions from overseas with little on the other direction. Part of the 'Cultural Cringe', perhaps.

However, I remain unconvinced that a work like Sidney Nolan's "Ned Kelly" belongs in such illustrious company. Can it really be taken seriously on any level ... historically, artistically, technically, philosophically or in any other way other than childlike, and worse still from an adult: shallow?

Conversely, if all that was Nolan's intention then he succeeded admirably.
