Any computer nerds out there clued up on encryption for linux ubuntu, which is good, which is no good.
As far as I know Ubuntu has an option when installing from the Alternate Install CD to encrypt the drive you install to.
Been using nothing but Ubuntu for years myself but never bothered with encryption, bit like you, couldn't be arsed doing all the research or learning how to code to understand it all.
I guess one good thing about an open source, community built operating system like Ubuntu, if an exploit is found, it's usually discovered & fixed a lot quicker than something like M$ systems where most of the code is a big secret we're not allowed to know about.

Your not being fully honest and you know it. Living in malaysia with a gov that restricts free speech. So you carefuly avoid criticising them online,as you fear them. And in public there you say not a word against them lol.I would have to restrict myself if I lived there too, to stay free. USA and China has propaganda. I know your chinese malaysian as you have larger grasp than a malay would, and you steadfastedly support china.USa has too much control of internet, but thats how it is at moment, until there is more Os and more search engines. bantu is a chinese se , thats a start. Theres hould be 20 Os for people to choose from 10 different countries, and 30 different se from 20 different countries for people to choose from. time will tell if that happens, but at moment usa controls, google, yahoo, micrsoft, apple,ao l,hp,ask, wikipedia, skype, topix ,duckduckgo, plus visa financil and paypal, thats alot of power on the internet, makes this snowden thing almost look like a usa propganda stunt to show us power in the internet
I don't know to what extend the Gov of Malaysia control the internet or if they want to control it but lack the skill or hardware to do it.
Topix for example is not available in Malaysia using ordinary internet connection. I don't know if it is banned or just pure incompetence or for any other reasons. I don't see how topix can be a threat to any gov.
