Gingrich: EMP attack could end it all

Jun 19, 2013 Full story: Politico 29

As Washington decides what to do about potential nuclear threats from North Korea and Iran, Newt Gingrich returned to Capitol Hill on Tuesday to point out what he called an equally grave danger: an electromagnetic pulse.

Mr. Gingrich is right for a change. An EMP attack could send the country back to the 18th century in seconds. We are extremely vulnerable because of our dependence on technology and electricity. An EMP weapon is easy to manufacture and deliver.

They always come up with something that should have been dealt with. especially since we are spending massive amounts of revenue on the homeland security/foreign war state. These men and women are voted in by us to make sure this was not possible. Frankly they knew this many decades ago. Now we are to be nickel and dimed some more. The Corrupted States of America.

Wow, thanks for the high-tech military info update there, Newt-boy Slim. I've only heard about EMPs for about oh, 30 years or so now.

What a fat moron. We should make contingency plans to explode him over N. Korea, if that doesn't constitute cruel and unusual punishment...LOL

EMP was the bogey man of the '70s.
Should we fear disco coming back, Newt.

Every so often Newt starts feeling ignored by the
media so he has to think up something new and
ear catching to say. Can't blame the guy for
trying.

Pretty much. I mean, it would probably work and could be devastating, but the problem is that the military would still have the power to launch nukes (thanks to hardened sites and protected communications networks) and would pretty immediately do so, assuming we were under full nuclear attack.

Which sort of deters that kind of event, as we have observed.

And yes, I DEFINITELY fear disco's return more than EMP! Yikes!:)

"Electromagnetic pulse."

Whoa, that sounds scientific.

Considering your average conservative's
fear and loathing of all things scientific
(if hit ain't Biblical, hit cain't be true),
if Gingrich is addressing his fellow Repub-
litards, he's casting his pearls before swine.
Real oinkers.

Give it up Noot.

Good point. I'm thinking of becoming an EMP-Denier and asking for a grant from the Tea Party...:)

EMP was a strategy to pin down weapons which shared a crossroads over the pole. All the significant US infrastructure is in equatorial orbit. EMP is not viable there because the targets are disperse.
Disco on the other hand was arguably a global menace.

No, an EMP would set us back to the stone age. People have no clue how to live without electricity. It's not like we could just go back to living like the 1800's; all the knowledge, skills, etc are gone. There would be a MASSIVE dieoff of 90%+ of the population, with the lucky few surviving in tiny enclaves.

Not that it would be a bad thing......

Read the book 'One Second After'; it'll scare the crap out of you!

Btw, it's not just an EMP that can destroy America. Anything which takes out our power grid- including many naturally occurring events- would end civilization as we know it.

Buckle up, it's gonna be a bumpy ride....
