Although no one wants a nuclear conflict, you are sure to get one if we don't back North Korea down in a very decisive way that demonstrates resolve. We made the mistake of not finishing things duringthe first Korean conflict. Now we are experiencing the eventual fallout from that decision. You can not buy them off any more than you can buy off Al Queida. Their frame of reference and cultural pre-dispositions are different than those of Europe.

If Iran and other rouge states believe we are afraid of China, there will be a continual building, probing and escalation until our allies are compromised and our credability and ability to protect our legitimate interests is total gone.

Words and diplomacy do not determine history. They must be accompanied by a big stick and the demonstration of the political will to use it in self defense or the defense of those we have comitted to defend. A country's monetary system is only as good as its military ability to protect itself. Will makes all the difference on the world stage. Just ask Israel.
