The BC forest industry is a victim of itself (yes we all know about the dreaded pine beatle..yawn) but it is the "unions" that have bee putting the proverbial final nail in that "industries" coffin for decades..end of story. Just take a look at how much the coastal logging/forestry union employees make compared to the Washington and Oregon state across the line with benefits rolled in..pathetic..unions do nothing but at the very least breed mediocraty..kind of like single mothers..lol!

It's the "free market".

Except when dealing with the US it's the "me" market.

The "free" market to the likes of Harper and Bush only applies to scab labour they want to flood the countries with.

Try ordering a coffee at Tim Hortons or something from Dairy Queen these days in Alberta.

I thought that there was a shortage of SKILLED workers, not a shortage of those that man coffee slinging tills and don't have a command of the English language.

It's the conservative "provincial needs" program, who get lobbied by Canadian bosses who can't fill positions in their crap jobs in a conservative led inflation fueled economy.

So rag on the "unions" who live in a country of
"socialism" when the only real socialists are the tenured pampered government officials, meanwhile the rest of us can live in their sold out to the "free market" country.

We produce lumber cheaper than the US, so blaming the unions is about as absurd as it comes.

Simple fact of the matter is, it's US protectionism.

Our lumber was flooding their market.

This has nothing to do with unions, it has to do with the US housing market that is in the tank. The companies have also been lazy in looking for other markets.

The US housing market has only had a negative affect very recently. BC has almost no industry whatsoever..and what we do have is staggeringly over regulated, overtaxed and overpaid. BC is just a tourism and real estate province now..yes there are good tax revenues from the northern parts of the province..where the snobby and eltists professional protesting "dens"ifide urban dwellers dont have to see it. I am constantly shocked that BC residents think that because it is "expensive" for them to live in Vancouver etc. that they should be paid ten times what they are worth..lol! Living in a little nimby bubble..hyporites all.

The discovery of the destructive Emerald Ash Borer in Oakville doesn't mean the insect has found its way to Halton Hills, GTA Ontario
