Don't belittle those who cannot afford private schooling. They are doing the best they can under the current system and their paygrade. YOU KNOW THAT, RIGHT?
My daughter is the only one I can afford to put in private school and I drive an POS truck as a result.

My boys goto public school.

I totally see the difference in the two separate systems.

It's night and day!

That's strange, every time I registered my son for school, I had to show his birth certificate, even when we lived in El Paso.
Nope, proof of citzenship required in El Paso to register a student.

My daughter went to private school all the way to 9th Grade. After that, I couldn't afford it anymore and couldn't take the driving distance (they didn't have school buses).

Yes, there is absolutely a night-and-day difference! Including parental participation (which I did a lot of when she went to private schools). I'm thankful that she got private schooling for her early education, and not the other way around.

Good choice to enroll your daughter in private school. Sorry you have to drive a POS truck to do so. Hope she appreciates your sacrifice.

The Texas school district is doing the right thing, not to mention LEGAL thing.

These Mexican parents sending their kids across the border may think they are doing right by their kids by sending them to the US for schooling, but they are also teaching them that it is ok to break the law.

I am really get sick and tired of the Mexican mentality of entitlement and disrespect for other countries. They ARE NOT ENTITLED to our schools. PERIOD.

Other than tuition costs. What are the differences you have noticed?

We should just close the border, and also send back all the "mexicans" out of wal-mart, H.E.B. and all other stores and restaurants, someone should stop them from spending their money in the USA, Stop everything, don't be selective, start with the schools, lets see where this takes us to. Mexicans dont spend that much money here, right?

Skinnygenes,

Showing a birth certificate is not required. The only requirement for regesitering kids in school is proof of residency (Gas bill, Electric bill, etc.). If you are showing a birth certificate, it's 'cause you feel like it. Not a requirement anywhere.

The El Paso economy depends heavily on the money that the Mexican people come to spend. Don't fool yourself on this.

Also, there is so much that comes and goes across the border that has an impact on more than El Paso.

Thinking it's not a good idea to allow the kids to attend school here, private or public. Public school for obvious reasons. Private schools for not so obvious reasons. Where is the money coming from? What's the source? Drugs? Etc.

Close the border.

Not exactly our point. Just think a little bit about where the money to fund expensive private schools could be coming from? Could it be drugs? Could it be from those getting killed in J-Town? Politics (aka drugs)? Business (aka corruption and drugs)?

Isn't that interesting, when my son registered for college, his birth certificate was required, and registration was held up until he presented it.

Sad, but true. The drug 'trade' has made its mark all over El Paso.

When I went to college, all they wanted was money.

I'm thinking El Paso and Las Cruces and the USA is doomed to suffer the consequences if something is not done now.

Maybe you just thought you presented a birth certificate. Never been required anywhere.

Was here in Illinois. Probably more to do with tuition fees than anything else though.

We've allowed a lot of wealthy mexicans over into the US. These may be the people that could bring the illicit activities with them as many people live off of bad business in mexico.

We should be worried.

Daily Horoscope for December 12

Cancer

Your mind is working well today, especially if you're hoping to cut a swathe through all the chores that are waiting for you. You'll get through them much quicker than usual, provided that you aren't interrupted by people who are longing to chat. Once they get started there will be no stopping them, so either be firm with them or pretend that you're about to go out and then lock your door so you can be left in peace.
