With the flagrant corruption enabling cartel growth and with it, the demise of citizen support; how does the Mexican Government feel that the Juarez citizens want outside government military patrolling their streets?!
The biggest face slapping is wanting OCCUPATION of the UN!! How's that feeling?? More trust in UNKNOWN SOLDIERS THAN THEIR own!!!! The FAILED STATE= MEXICO and US "officials" proclaim the border safer, now that joke's on US.. The Arizona governor, hardly known for her standout performance there, wants us to think the unfinished fence now warrants amnesty and complete immigration overhaul! How silly can they be? |

1 Did you know that in former President Salinas' term they were more billionaires in Mexico than in any other country? The government is the problem. Poor Mexican people they have been carrying these leaches for over 75 years. Starting with the dictatorship PRI. |

And there it all is. Besides the Drug Lords are in charge of Mexico. Well, aren't they?? Look at Nuevo Laredo. "Somebody" negotiated a "PEACE" between the Government and the Cartels/Zetas. The Zetas now own the city and the people. "Somebody" sold them both out, rather than fight the cartels. The Police are still driving around in Police vehicles, but don't think the Zetas allow them to have any weapons. Blind obedience, slavery, shackles and chains. "Government" by terror??? |

They're doing their job at the fullest and with very little resources and I applaude thm for taking the fight to those scumbags |

1 Get things in perspective. It is the drug hunger of the US users that is fueling the cartels. The fight is bloody, but most of the deaths are drug cartel members killing each other. there is going to be more bloodshed, and innocents will be killed, that is deplorable. Do you know anything about the US Mafia history of the 20's? The government is fighting the cartels, and gaining ground. Th Mexican people are in support of the action to rid their country of drug lords. Mexico is hardly a failed state. Which if the three North American countries is in debt to China? Which of the three North American countries leaves millions of its citizen without health care? Which of the three North American countries has had a complete failure of its banking and financial systems? Here's a clue: its not Mexico or Canada! Get your facts straight and read newspapers other than those put out by the US media machines. |

1 Everybody on our side of the Border "knows" that ALL AMERICAN News Media "lies" about what is actually going on in Mexico. Im not sure exactly why they would do that. Even OUR American-Hispanic journalists in El Paso, who wrote huge columns for Sunday with names, dates, places, probably "lied" about most of it, Im sure. So I guess that we, on the U.S. side, just assume that you get all your "facts" from the Mexican Newspapers, the Mexican Media? You know the ones where, if the journalist writes the WRONG story he is DEAD, if he writes the TRUE story, he is DEAD. So IF he or she is going to stay at home in Mexico being a "Journalist", then they best be toeing the "party line". Maybe just do stories like a used car sale or maybe something like "Senor and Senora Chavez came to visit..........". So maybe if you just confess, that maybe, just maybe your little beach hut at La Paz is a long way from the Drug Wars, we will understand your apparent "expertise". Yesterday a little boy,(along with several other people) 7 years old was murdered, along with his Dad, on a street in Juarez. Was wondering, what YOU think this kids connection was to the cartels?? Maybe he was a drug dealer? Yes, thats it, Im sure. Anytime you want a real dose of REALITY, just leave your little beach hut and go up to Juarez, Tijuana, Nueva Laredo, Cancun, Ojinaga, Brownsville and take a REALISTIC look at the drug war. Be sure to take notes. Don't want you going back and "LYING" to the home town media in La Paz. |

1 But while trying to label me as unaware, you missed the point entirely. I enjoy informed debate, not knee jerk reactionary drivel full of racist and sexist slurs. |

So, Sofagel, what are you doing in Mexico? A good United States citizen who chose to leave the good old US of A for Mexico. We all know it's beautiful down there. My guess is that you live a little better life than the guy selling flowers in the street, the guy selling cigarettes on the corner or the woman dancing in a strip club.
I'm thinking I can read and comprehend very well. How about you? Looking at Mexico through wealthy eyes? Everything looks better with money. Don't fool yourself, you know very well that danger is rampant in Mexico. Take a trip down to Juarez. Not saying that you are unaware. You are probably very aware. You can always choose to see what is there or not. There are so many points of view on Mexico right now. Ask a politician and they will tell you there's no danger or seriousness. Ask a wealthy person and they may say that there's really nothing to fear. Ask a poor person and they will tell you that they are scared and hoping this will all go away. They may also say that they have gotten used to the high number of killings and don't pay much attention any more. Not sure I see any racist or sexist slurs. You may need to clarify. Enjoy Mexico. It is a very pretty country that is rich in just about everything you can think of. Unfortunately, drugs and corruption have screwed it up. |

Pinky, was going to say something in reply, but think that you have pretty much explained it all very well. You do know where La Paz, La Baja is don't you?? It's like a remote, resort on a peninsula, across from Los Mochis on mainland Mexico. So yes, think that we can assume, reasonably so, that she is pretty well disconnected, insulated from the realities of the drug wars out there. She mentioned "debate". Not sure what the arguement, debate could have been. Unless of course, WE are NOT supposed to believe the "fabricated" American Media stories about death, murder and destruction, but we are supposed to believe the Mexican Media and the Mexican RICH and the politicos and that "everything is fine in Mexico and of course ,drug war, what drug war"?? I dont begrudge her or anyone having that little spot on the beach or whatever she has down there, but the reality is here. Maybe the problem is that the ferry from Los Mochis only brings the newspapers and the mail once per week?? |

Hey Gun,
Here's a good place to read about what goes on in Mexico, mainly in Juarez. Not sure if you can translate to english or not, but these guys take it all off and let you know and show you how it really went down. http://www.lapolaka.com/juarez.html W/r to Sofagel. I'm glad she's doing good in Mexico and I hope she continues to do good in Mexico. I hope that whatever she pays in taxes to the local police (mordida) continues to be enough. In Juarez, many people paid Mordida to the cops. The little Mordida started to not be enough. Next it was medium mordida. Followed by Mordidon (Big Ass Bite). Those who could not pay the bigger bite met their death or were simply not allowed to operate. For years, the people have said that it's just a little mordida. Well, guess what? Los mordilones became greedier and now it's Big Mordida or die. Truly do wish Sofagel the best. Living in a tourist resort hardly constitutes being in the know. In all seriousness, I invite you all to go to Juarez any day of the week. Go down on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday so that you can experience the corruption 1st hand. Of course, they are in the mood to bite any day of the week. If you are lucky, you may see and assassination or two while you are there without getting killed. If you are not so lucky, you might get caught up in the middle of one of these assassinations that apparently are not taking place according to some politicians. Keep in mind that according to the politicos, only 15% of what goes on is illegal. I'd say that 4000 dead people in Juarez in 1 yr is a little more than 15%. Then again, maybe they are doing ratios on the population of 1.5M, which is more like 2.5M (I know someone who worked the last sensus, they would just fabricate the numbers of people in a given area). I'm thinking these were not the people that live in tourist resorts. Not on $40/week. Peace! |

Here's some Mexican safety for you all to enjoy. As you can see, it's perfectly safe down there. There's even time to debate about issues if you feel like it. This newspaper must be disconnected and simply painting an ugly picture. Read it daily as it outlines the latest and greatest killings in J-Town.

Sofogel: This is true and people think Mexico is a failed state. It is a long way from that. The economy runs. The economy is in a slowed down state but the whole world is in one too. The slowdown of trade is due to the richer nations in the world sending jobs overseas to countries who use very cheap labor. It is countries in Asia who pay less than $10.oo a week to their workers whose economy is growing. Here SOfogel is where posters are correct. It is corruption that runs deep and rampant in all sectors of the economy. My recommendation is if your not involved in the business you only have normal street crime to worry about but that doesn't mean to be ignorant of the fact of random violence. Your right the people are scared and want change but are powerless to do something. It is up to the government who doesn't have the people's trust. |
