it is extremely unfortunate that the good future of niue is only an effective decision if one lives on niue as a niuean. resource sharing - money, knowledge, work experience, people are some of the many contributing parts to a thriving economy. those on niue who oppose external cooperation and assistance from other niueans where ever they may be are maintaining a nation which is swimming in debt.

we as kiwi born are made to feel as second citizens when backk on the island, yet we contribute so much to the island economy when we holiday in niue.niue definitley needs external advice and expertise and a wider perspective on politics and other practices, options that affect niue.

Niue is a NZ state and as such, along weith the cook's, should be represented in parliamant, no q.

My concern is why both these nation islands aren't passport free for NZ citizens.

We should be able to fly there as citizens.

American's fly to Hawaii without passports.

There is something that really stinks about this situation.

Obviously, we don;t live in a democracy.

Both these people aer NZ citizens. They use NZ currency and travel here as citizens.

Yet we have to have pass orts to travel there.

Disgraceful.

You must annex Niue. It's legal status of 'free association' with NZ lets it operate as a nation without sovereignty. Which is handy if you want all your bills paid by someone else while making all the decisions yourself.
Alternatively you could sell the island of to the Yanks as a potential nuclear base.

China is after Fiji offering bribes for wessel berth.

I believe this was the entire motive of the last govt to persecute Fiji and have it thrown out of the commonwealth; so communist China could move in.

Indigenous Fijians have been trying to return Fiji to it's people instead of being run by the Indians. They don't have the finance the indigeous leaders have. But the Indians don't have the military either.

The military was the only option the
indigenous peoplpe could turn to.

Only the democracy hating socialists pursued a case against Fiji on China's behalf (I believe)

Be interesting to see if the new govt continues to cement its policies with the left as they did with the anri smacking law.

Sue Bradford, the so called architect (but really an international phenomenon) has just been threatened with the first political assassanation here)

Unfortunately, China is in a very good position to get what it wants — and more. Interestingly the Chinese coloniziation of African economies and natural resources has recently just begun as well! As long as Fiji's ethnic conflict continues and the military remains a political force there, one can expect to see the country's economy get 'Shanghaied'!

What the premier of Niue wants next from NZ govt? The govt of NZ has done so much for the niueans in NZ also the ones in Niue. A solution is easy for the premier of Niue; let NZ take over the control of finance and development of the Island, and things might improve.

So is Niue not an independent state like the Cooks?

I doubt your scenario will happen cause we moving towards OZ.

That's why we'll also never hae a written constitution.

I'm not sure there's much to improve in Niue as long as the status quo prevails. The island is much like a big Indian Reservation. Minus the casinos.

Daily Horoscope for December 23

Aquarius

Someone is being bombastic and overbearing, and you don't like it. You aren't prepared to take their behavior lying down, but standing up to them is likely to result in a rip-roaring row. Well, it seems that the row is almost inevitable, and perhaps that's just as well because it won't do you any good to swallow your anger or tolerate this person's boorishness for much longer.
