Many students take on work with their studies as well as any loans/subsidies. Not anything wrong with prostitution, although I feel it might be a choice not a necessity as others manage without it. Also it would be unfair to give out a public perception that this is a solution for all; many would not cope with feeling it's an option, yet feel an amount of pressure to consider it. I believe the issue to be the loans are not high enough ~ students should be given bank loans to cover them throughout as they will later have careers that afford repayment. I doubt it will matter if she runs into past clients as a vet nurse does not need to hold the same public respect as a person nurse; it might be a problem for other professions tho.

Given that it's the world's oldest profession and legal in NZ, how is this making the news?

Should I have written a letter to the prime minster when I was a student saying "I have to work at a petrol station to pay my way while studying"? So what? Most students need a part time job.

The mind boggles. Maybe I've missed the point of the article.

She wasn't forced into prostitution. There are other ways to make money, but i guess prostituting herself is far more enjoyable than waiting tables and cleaning floors.
