Hip-hop-style youth gangs have existed in New Zealand for nearly 20 years, but mainstream society has never known quite what to make of them, and by default has not taken them particularly seriously. Suburban teenagers aping the subculture of American ghettos by wearing bandannas and proclaiming to be "Crip killers" have been typically dismissed as ludicrous, if slightly unnerving, fantasists. "We used to laugh at them because they were just copy-catting what they'd seen on American movies," says Inspector Jason Hewett, the policeman charged with addressing South Auckland's gang problem. "They were more of a nuisance than anything else."
That all changed in October 2005, when the first of Auckland's 10 recent youth gang-related homicides the stabbing of 38-year-old Iulio Naea, father of a Mangere gang member occurred in Otara, triggering a spate of violence which also saw a number of young men maimed, and young women pack-raped. The attacks prompted a top-level government response, including Ministry of Social Development (MSD) research into Manukau's youth gang problem. Police say the situation has calmed, but problems continue: two weeks ago a Manukau family was forced to move house after shots were fired into their home, and last week, in Te Atatu, 18-year-old Isiah Wall was nearly beaten to death in a fight with local Bloods. Meanwhile, in Wellington, police are hunting a group they describe as "pack animals", responsible for a string of assaults (one indecent) and robberies. Police Association head Greg O'Connor recently went as far as stating that the "biggest threat to New Zealand society is LA-isation of our mostly Polynesian youth".
What went down:

1.A 20 on 20 gang bang went down .

2.Between the KT gang and Jcb.

3.K.T = ko tamas ,who are a tongan gang that have been around 4 years in south auckland they have junior members vs J C B junior crip boys a crew that has links 2 the black power due to the fact the black power presidents son is in the gang.

4.Last weekend the two gangs clashed in a 20 on 20 gang bank in the Jcb turf of Otahuhu, the end result was two tongan K t gangstas got klocked and the murder 187 went down....
It was a K T that got shot .

I know im boys with people that were their

Jio-Peni Sauaki is one of up to a dozen members or associates of the dangerous South Auckland street gang the JCBs - Juvanyle Crip Boys - to have been sentenced to jail after their vicious run of violent attacks.
The gang came to public attention with an attack in the Otara neighbourhood of Flat Bush at Labour weekend 2005 that left two of their rivals fighting for their lives.
The father of key JCB member George Naea was killed in retaliation immediately afterwards in a night of violence that cost $2.5 million to investigate and prosecute.
It was the first of the string of 11 street or gang killings in Auckland in the past two years.
Naea, that night and the JCB gang were subject of a Weekend Herald investigation in August.
Naea has since been sentenced to a total of seven years and nine months in prison for his part in the Flat Bush attack and another JCB attack. Eight other JCB members or associates were given sentences of up to nine years and nine months for their involvement.
Other members have been convicted for their part in two similar street attacks or of subsequent violent crimes.
Marlan Tuporo, the rival gang member who killed Naea's father Lio, is serving a life sentence with 17 years without parole.
Detective Senior Sergeant Sue Schwalger, who led the police investigation into the JCBs, said their violence "was out of control" at the time.

Five out of eight young people have been jailed for the “doubly tragic” manslaughter of the junior Auckland Warriors league player Benjamin Halaholo. The 16-year-old died after being repeatedly punched and kicked in the head near the Globe Tavern in Wakefield St, Central Auckland, early on December 21 last year.
Justice Elias delivered the sentences to a packed court room in the High Court at Auckland yesterday. About 60 relatives and friends of both Benjamin Halaholo and the eight people who attacked him were present.
The judge allowed some of the people standing in the gallery to move to sit on seats and on the floor of the area reserved for counsel. One woman sat in the jury box with reporters.
Filise Mafi, aged 20, student; Francis Tapusoa, 20, storeman; Asani Matulino, 22, process worker; Tony Oscar Johansson, 20, word processor all of Otara, were each sentenced to four and a half years’ imprisonment. A 19-year-old builder’s labourer, Nicholas Gregory Kisina, also of Otara, received a jail sentence of three and a half years.
William Logan Johansson, 19, unemployed of Otara, was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment suspended for two years and 10 months periodic detention; and a 21-year-old Onehunga solo mother, Tapaita Stephanie Sinisa, received six months’ jail suspended for 18 months and for months’ periodic detention. The eighth person, Latuata Benjamin Anae, 19, student, of Papatoetoe, was convicted and discharged on a charge of common assault:
Mafi, Kisina, Matulino, the Johansson brothers and Tapusoa had pleaded guilty to charges of manslaughter. Sinisa admitted a charge of assaulting Benjamin Halaholo with intent to injure. Tears flowed among the families of the prisoners and relatives of Benjamin Halaholo as the sentences were given.
Justice Elias said the incident was a double tragedy.

Justice Helen Winkelmann sentenced Jeffrey Alailima Key in the High Court in Auckland today to life imprisonment for the murder of Riki Mafi, an innocent bystander, in Otara Town Centre in September 2006.
She ordered that Key serve a minimum non-parole period of 12 years.
Justice Winkelmann said that Key was among a group of people that went to Otara Town Centre after being told that two people -- not including Mr Mafi -- had asked for a knife so they could stab them.
She said Key hit Mr Mafi, who was not acting in any way aggressively, so hard with a baseball bat that he felled him.
He then struck another blow while Mr Mafi was on the ground before he was pulled away by colleagues.
Key had expressed remorse for his part in the attack during a police interview but had pleaded not guilty at the trial, with his lawyer Marie Dhyrberg saying he did not have murderous intent and there was reasonable doubt whether he struck the fatal blow to Mr Mafi.
Justice Winkelmann rejected Ms Dhyrberg's submission that Key get the standard minimum non-parole period of 10 years.
Mr Mafi was vulnerable when he was attacked, that Key acted as part of a group, and that such acts of street violence needed to be deterred, she said.

A man has admitted the shotgun killing of a gangland rival on the streets of south Auckland.
Details of the powder keg of tension in area were revealed in the police summary of the slaying of Haruru Pekepo in Otahuhu in the early hours of July 16 last year.
Drink, firearms, a thirst for vengeance and threats of home invasion emerged from the police account of the build-up to the shooting.
The case against three men, set down for four weeks, ended abruptly last night in the High Court at Auckland when they admitted an amended indictment.
One of the police exhibits was a video the FRS gang (F...ing Ruthless Souljahs) made of themselves drinking, brandishing weapons and making threats towards a rival gang calling itself, less flamboyantly, the SPIs or South Pacific Islanders.
Semisi James Moala pleaded guilty to the murder of 19-year-old Mr Pekepo.
Moala, aged 22 of Otara, also pleaded guilty to being a party to causing grievous bodily harm to Tevita Laui, who received a shotgun blast to the arm during the same fracas.
Moala's associate, Siale Taiala, 23 of Otahuhu, admitted being a party to the manslaughter of Mr Pekepo and also to being the principal offender in the shooting of Mr Laui.

Moala's younger brother Alec Junior Moala, now aged 18, whose name suppression lapsed at the start of the trial, admitted being an accessory after the fact by disposing of the murder weapon.
He was granted bail pending sentence next month. The other two were remanded in custody by Justice Patricia Courtney.
Initially all three had been accused of murder.
Court papers say that a week before the fatal shooting, a cousin of the Moala brothers was beaten up by Mr Laui's elder brother, James, behind the Countdown supermarket in Otahuhu.
During the altercation Semisi Moala told his younger brother to get a gun.
On his return, he pointed the gun at Mr Pekepo, who got in a car and ran into him twice with the vehicle.
James Laui grabbed the gun, though curiously it was eventually handed back to Semisi Moala.
During the following week, police investigators say, the rival gangs threatened and taunted each other and rumours started circulating about a possible "home invasion" by the SPI.
On the evening of the shooting a number of the FSR were sitting drinking in their cars at the East Tamaki Rugby Club carpark before going to a garage at a property in Otahuhu where they continued drinking and amused themselves "rapping."

Background
A former Waikato Mongrel Mob vice-president has been jailed for nine years for manufacturing methamphetamine.
Dwight Fatu, 34, of Hamilton, was sentenced in the High Court at Hamilton yesterday on eight charges, including two each of manufacturing and supplying methamphetamine, conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine, conspiracy to supply methamphetamine, wilful neglect of children and receiving stolen property.
Fatu must serve five years before he is eligible for parole.
The charges follow three searches last year of Fatu's home, during which police seized equipment and chemicals to manufacture the drug,$7920 cash and stolen property, including a television set and two laptop computers.
During the third search in October at a flat in Ruakiwi Rd, Hamilton, police found surveillance cameras, chemicals and equipment in a car and other items which had been flushed down the toilet to avoid detection.
Justice MacKenzie rejected a suggestion by Fatu's lawyer, Sean Ellis, that it was a minor operation.
"The scale of manufacturing was high and the commercial element was significant," he said.
