I'm tempted to think it is lies. Forget the word 'pakeha', their numbers don't stack up. Which is making me think that stuff.co.nz is being run by a bunch of limp wristed, PC lefty liberals.

Fair enough, child abuse IS abhorrent no matter who perpetrates it, but:

"Her master's thesis at Massey University found about half of the children killed in New Zealand died at the hands of a Pakeha abuser."

This would be expected, because of the ethnic breakdown of the population. And just like the incarceration numbers (and a host of other negative statistics), Maori are represented to a significantly disproportionate degree.

This article looks less of a highlighting of child abuse by whites, but more of a smoke screen covering up the real tragedy of child abuse within Maori.

The long term aim of the study's author, I'm sure, is to have us all believing that whites commit more child abuse, as well as being responsible for abuse committed by Maori. You see, it's ALL our fault.

I remember seeing an article and it said half the kids who died were pakeha and 36% were maori.

Well when you consider Pakeha make up 65% of the population we are underepresented in the killings while maori are about 13% of the population and made up 36% of the killings way over represented.

That being said it is a problem across the whole country from all walks of life.

Adam is an idiot, just a racist trying to say that having 1/10th the amount of Maori committing the same amount of crimes as the rest of New Zealand makes the numbers look ok. He forgets that statistics are broken down on a per capita basis, something he neglects to refer to when speaking about stats of Maori vs Normal people.

kind of a joke i dont think any white person is going to try say theres not child abuse amongst white people. But the rate amongst maori and pi is alot higher.no matter what spin you put on it.

Raema Merchant stated in her article "It is unclear how the public have developed a perception child abuse a Maori issue". Well it's really quite clear to the rest of us Raema considering Maoris are killing their children at a vastly greater rate than anyone else. And this damned phoney academic apologist refers to Europeans as "Pakeha" What the hell is that?

"Almost 9000 children were victims of physical abuse between 2000 and 2008, yet only 21 became "household names"' in the media, she said."

That's because the "abuse" from most of the white people was a smack on the butt, whereas the part Maoris were ripping their toe nails off, sticking them in dryers, hanging them on clotheslines and using them as teeball sets with their "cuzzies".

About as much credibilty as Margaret Mutu in my book, friggen zero! I think it's good though that these third rate, pseudo academics attempt to insult our intelligence and spout this nonsense from time to time, they fuel the anti "Maoris and everything they stand for" sentiment and polarize public opinion against them.

You make me piss myself, almost to the extent that I do it like I am part Maori and it's part of my daily life.

You talk as though your so high up in the world. Mate, you are a nobody. Stop with this virtual life, it's starting to look sad. I am actually starting to feel a lot of pity towards you.$50 computer course, thinks he knows I.T, thinks he has all these masters degrees, pretends he works 4 hours a week and makes over $10,000. Now he works for the government, oh and he rents his house, but can afford to buy a 10 million dollar house in Remuera if he wanted to. I mean come on buddy, which story is it, there has been so many.

i dont think there is anything pseudo about a masters with hons, from massy...

pseudo implies it is not genuine or fake....

nothing could be further from the truth....

massey has a good name....a good rep,( apart from kkklown).....

i dont know the woman, nor have i read her papers... till i have, i dont know if shes right or wrong....

i would rely on the judgement of her institution.....she was awarded a masters for her thesis, by massy, must nbe solid research then....

Or watch her get her fruit from a road-side stall with an honesty box.
