Hi
My husband and I are work permit holders in Namibia for the past 15 years, both our kids were born in Namibia. They recently received their Namibian birth certificates although they already have South African passports. May they have their Namibian Passports as well or do they have to renound their South African passports first?

Refer to original posts and links to the site with the court ruling. We have to do our own homework.

I was born in Windhoek but never got my birth certificate. I was born at the state hospital in 1969. I would like to get a copy of my birth certificate so that I can apply for my Namibian Passport.

I think it is great that there finally is a ruling that says that dual citizenship is allowed.
We are so many in the diaspora-not only first generation, but 2nd, 3rd and so on.
Many of us want to come home and participate in Namibias' future, but we also cannot give up the other country where we grew up.

I applied for permanent residence permit once, but I will now apply for the citizenship based on descent.

And hopefully one day I will come back to Namibia to stay for good.

Well.. if you speak English that should be sufficient, seeing as the official language of Namibia IS English.

probably. The only way to find out is to visit the Namibian embassy in your area. You'll probably require their birth certificates though. Other than that, i don't really know.
