What Happend to Morocco ?

Few years back no woman would dress up like that… and now… just don’t understand what happened to morocco… My grandfather used to be Imam but he has never grew beard.. Morocco has been always Muslims but you could see people faces and their shinny smile... We are somehow going backwards. We used to see people with nice white cloths and big wide smile and now all what you see is only woman all covered in black… and scary men with long beard…

maybe it's because they are afraid what and how to be. Maybe they need a real caring leader to guide them through this change.Being so used to the old ancient ways for so long and all.Change can be a difficult transition for those who are living with a certian system and belief.

Kathy,
It’s weird, some part of the population are going towards Middle East fashion dressing up and behaving like them; Morocco has always kept his own identity and tradition we used to like more white cloths and nowadays you see these scary people all covered up with black. It’s good to change but it’s should be towards modern world not become one of the strict countries full of contradiction like in the Middle East.

Is it me or am I missing something? I don't see much black in Morocco. I know in Saudi Arabia they wear black and other eastern countries but morocco has kepted with a slow progressive western turn for clothing. The leadership needs some tweeking.

kathy,
the last time i visited morocco, i did see quite a few of the women dressed the way Nial mentioned. i think that some progress has been made with the new leader of morocco. we have to remember that the changes will be slow and far between. it is a traditional country and many will oppose a radical and immediate westernization of it. moroccans do not want to lose their value and culture. as long as morocco keeps receiving western tourists and western dollars, i am sure it will not become a strict and closed off society like most of the middle east. we must also remember that morocco receives funding from the usa and for certain that "kind gesture" comes with stipulations.

Yes well I got back the end of March and I'll tell you the young people are not wearing anything but western wear. There are sure a lot of hookers there. Actually, everywhere there.I guess it's the only good paying business for them if they can't read, but, aids is pretty big. The gays have moved into Merrekech bigtime. They used to be in tangier.

Kathy,
I agree with LMAO. The thing which bothers me is; some people are trying to follow the extremist ideas and the life style from Saudi Arabia; so they dress up, behave and try to speak to them. This phenomenon has never been sought in Morocco in the era of the previous king.
Check the picture in this link: http://www.topix.net/world/morocco/2008/05/wh... .

By the way LMAO the main visitors to Morocco are the Europeans and mainly French tourist so we get more Euros currency from tourism rather than the US dollars.

yeah i know more tourists come from europe but when i say western dollars, it is just a figure of speech to denote that westerners (people from europe, america and canada) spend lots of money in morocco.

kathy,
you know what is so sad is that for the most part where "conservatism" is the norm and talking about sex out loud is totally taboo, the rate of AIDS cases in morocco and many countries like it will continue to rise. sex education is so vital in the schools and the homes no matter where you live. as western and modern as my country is, when i have my sessions with the teenagers at my school, their biggest fear about having unprotected sex is getting pregnant and not contracting AIDS or any other STD. if we don't keep reiterating the seriousness of this disease, we will end up losing generations of people because of carelessness and stupidity.

at least i have a day job to give up. unlike you who can only work the late shifts cleaning toilets because your face is so damn ugly you may scare the bathroom patrons and cause them to forget what they went in there to do. your face is so ugly, that when your prostitute of a mother gave birth to you, the doctor slapped her and then asked which forest animal is your daddy.
