Asalaamu Alaikum wrwb ,
Well I know this is sort of a strange place to post such a serious question , but then again I guess you never know who is reading ! OK, I will be straight forward , I am moving to Morocco , inshAllah , in February 2009 , Kenitra was my original intended city , because I was able to travel and meet some wonderful people there whom I will always consider friends , But recently , I find myself more open to the idea of exploring other cities , so as of now , i do not have a specific city of choice , but so open for ideas and suggestions . So now my main question is this ... does anybody know where I can find reasonable quotes of rentals , im not looking for a raid or a villa , lol , Im actually seeking something more simple and inexpensive that what is available for viewing online ! something small , yet something that can still provide the welcome home feel , I am not just visiting morocco , I am really moving there from New York City ! Im actually looking to spend in between 1000 dh - 1500 dh a month rent . This I can not find online , although I know is available in Morocco . I know this may leave questions lingering in your minds , like what is he going to do for work and all that other good stuff , but dont worry yall I have that all figured out , I just need to find a place to hang my coat ! Thanks for any information anybody can offer , I will sincerely appreciate it all ! jazakAllahu Khir , Asalaamu Alaikum...P.S..... kENITRA IS ACTUALLY MY POINT OF INTEREST .

i remember that i 've submitted a respoonse to you.
anyway for an appartment with 1000-1500 dh it can be available but i am afraid it will be very modest can have only 2 or 3 rooms so not that big at all.
if you have anything else to ask feel free.

Asalam alaikum,

If Kenitra is the place you are after, it is not that bad, large enough with all facalities and close enough to Rabat for administration etc. Certaily a 1500dh rent means an apartment in a popular district and that is fine, and like the poster above said, 2 to 3 rooms. Make sure your good friends do the negotiations for you, in fact rather than look for something on line, ask them to find something as it is really negotiations and "who you know" that will make a difference. The best places are from small time rent-finders who you will give a one-off fee for them helping.

As for the rest of Morocco, it depends on what you are looking for. If it is to be close to your friends then go to Kenitra, if you will see them often but not all the time, Fes or Temara/Sale (the two cities next to Rabat) and you can get to Kenira easily by train. If you can afford a car, then the range is further and you may consider as far as Tanger or Casablanca.

In all cities, even down in the south here in Marrakech you can find accommodation at that price but basically the more exensive the city, the further out into the popular suburbs you go. Marrakech is the more expensive for rent but the cost of eating is the cheaper (or costly depending on where you go).

I have lived in Morocco now for eight years, love it and will not leave, though my circumstances are different (I am a Dutch born Muslim convert, aged 48 and married to a Moroccan, own my own home etc), the think I enjoy the most is that I have learned the language, travel to all areas, popular or chic and talking with locals and appreciating their lives is the most rewarding. Apart from that, I sit in cafes drinking mint tea, read the newspaper and watch the Atlas Mountains (that has snow now on them).

Ma'asalama
.
ps, what country are you from/backgroud?

Contemplating a move to Marakesh - how long before you get a grip on the Arabic language. I know the french language to speak it and read it.

What is it like dealing with Moroccans in business? What is considered a good salary here for a very comfortable lifestyle?

What kind of health insurance is required?

What was the biggest 'surprise' or issue you had not contemplated before making the move...

What would you 'forewarn' us on before making the move?

Well, to be honest, a PAEDOPHILE like ya is always welcomed by the moroccan corrupted government dominated by a bunch of Fezi oligarchs .
