It was unethical enough to allow the daughter of a councilwoman to participate in the contest to begin with. Of course she was going to place in something.

Who were the judges anyway? People relying on funding from the city?

Now, everybody will be wondering what connection the winners has with the city council.

Everyone knows that the Pico Rivera City Council has the ethics of a slug.
The Mayor just appointed the Grandma of the fourth runner up, Graciela Gallegos, to the Sister City Committee.

City spokesman Bob Spencer" said the new format was adopted to make the contest more modern and to combat negative views about pageants'.

If that was really the case, then they should have held the contest in another city, where conflict of interests is not everyday occurrence, and where the Mayor or their friends are not under investigation by the District Attorney's office

Spencer said the pageant was revived because it was widely requested when city staff surveyed residents about what kinds of events they would like to see for the 50th anniversary.

Because of one of the first few lines in the story you can see what a liar this guy is.

As part of the 50th anniversary celebration for the city, officials and the Blue Ribbon Committee planning the festivities chose to revive the Miss Pico Rivera Pageant, disbanded in 1988.

The Blue Ribbon Committee is consisted of the same people that the city council has surrounded themselves with from the now Pico Water District, their Sister City Commissioners, etc.

Who is that writing such negative things? Is that you Raul Murga? Everyone knows you have a vandetta against the current council because your friends lost in the last elections. Please take a look at your personal record before casting a stone on someone else. I dare not say a word about your personal track record only because there are people who will not go to your level. There was nothing crooked in the pageant and a lot of us residends are very happy the event was held because it brought a lot of pride to the city. Why don't you do some investigation and find out first before you speak ill of this city who is gettig better and better. Please stop spreading rumors and stop saying false accusations. It's just unbelievable how much time and energy you spend to destroy people's reputation and the goodwill of others.

Hooray Pico Rivera!! It's great the city is doing this!!! This is definitely a good example for the young girls, especially if these young ladies will promote civic knowledge, self confidence and volunteer work. We all are so proud of Pico Rivera. It's finally time that we, the community, all feel more connected with our city council.

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK AND DON'T LET ANYONE KEEP YOU DOWN. You can never have 100% of pleasing others, but you sure are close. All others are just plain envious and can only get their 15 minutes of fame by saying rotten things about people.

Pico Rivera, my kids and I love you!!!!!

Nobody said anything bad about the "newest" Queen of Pico Rivera, except that everybody will wonder who the winners are connected with.(Business Partners, former council, etc.)

SMH, Unethical behavior and pay for play are good examples for the young girls?

Everything is in debt, the city is proposing a 1/2 cent increase for the 50th Anniversary, and thinking about increasing water rates, while they all get taxpayer funded vacations to Mexico in December?

Do you know anything about the debt the City of Pico Rivera is in? or the people that they are really connected with? And do you really care since your from Los Angeles?

How naive to think that there is only a few residents that are unhappy with the City Council and City Manager.

Call the D.A. yourself, ask if Ron Beilke is under investigation still? Do you remember, this was reported in the newspaper?

Im sorry i don't believe that it should matter who participated in the pageant. And regardless of what "debt" Pico Rivera might be in, this article was about the pageant itself, not the city and corruption. You need to find an alternative for your hate towards the city, maybe, move? I don't think that bringing others down with your criticism is very effective and you should attend council meetings and express your emotions there. Congratulations to the new Miss Pico Rivera!...and her court!

No, this is not Alicia's sister. Alicia's younger and only sis is like 29.
