Mexico is in the American Continent, so maybe the title is not as strange after all.

The article was a translation of an article and interviews in Spanish... and I believe the original spirit of the article is "To seek the Mexican Dream".

To talk about the "American Dream" when these people went because they were marginalized, criminalized or expediently deported, because their illegal status, sounds more like a mockery.

But then, I guess that it fits more the US mentality, since they belive that Mexico is a branch of Hell, and that all Mexicans want to jump over there.

I don't know if the sample of this youths they interviewed was representative. I was expecting to hear curses against Mexico blaming it for their fate. I was wrong.

Nice to see that these youths have a more or less centered vision and are open to accept Mexico as their Motherland.

They seem better that many people that live in the border and some narcotrafficker states like Sinaloa or Tamaulipas, that combine desires to poison people with drugs, unlimited love for the "American way of life" and conservative anti-all attitudes.

Welcome, lads and gals. ;-)

If Mexico would stop hanging dead people on telephone poles, and tried to clean up the filth and crime in that Country, maybe their people wouldn't come up here. This is the United States. Not Mexico... but our values are attracting the World. We can't be all that bad if everyone seems to want to get here, but the Legal member's of this Country only want too reclaim the States and County's that have been over run by stranger's who care nothing for our Values and our Love of Country. Why do you believe there is so much disagreement? We want to keep this Country American.

With the cost of rent and taxes they still end up being poor in the USA. They come for the medical and all the free benefits. I know for a fact because my Mexican wife talks to one of her friends in Utah all the time. She brags about how she gets her rent subsidized, and free medical and more. Things not afforded in Mexico. Mexican hospital is not free for everyone here. That is a farce. Many also go because they fear for their lives. I know of many right now that have moved to El Paso for just that reason.

On minimum wage a family could not pay rent, car insurance, buy food and pay medical in the USA without help. Americans coming into Mexico have money and a retirement, and many with insurance in the USA. To get that visa you have to show a minimum of $1,000 per year income from the USA to live in Mexico. They want bank statements. That is about 2 1/2 times the average Mexicans wage here in Mexico. I am amazed that every American I have ever met that has lived in Mexico for more then a year can speak good enough Spanish to communicate.

I think it would help the cause of Mexicans to at least try and speak the language, and try to fit in a little bit. I know people appreciate it here when they see I do everything I can to be a part of Mexico and her people.

I think Ronnie is referring more to illegals. Then countries and people. A fair conversation if one can not bundle all Mexican people into the equations. There are a lot of wonderful law abiding, good Mexican people here in Mexico and in the other parts of the world.

But for some reason stores have everything written in Spanish, and English. Answering services that say push 1 for English, and 2 for Spanish. So in reality I see where he is coming from. The other countries and ethnicity do not figure into the equations like Mexico. Nothing here says push 3 for Chinese. They seem to learn the language a little better and quicker. As do most other countries. Just an observation. Nothing against Mexican people in general, but just what I see.

The USA does still have the number one economy in the world. China is second. America has the most military might. Russia is second and China is third. With lots of benefits. But going about it the right way is only fair.

Proud Mexican people do not go to the USA legally. They are also many proud Mexicans here in Mexico that do not want to move to the USA.

I want to rephase the last paragraph to say:

Proud Mexican people do not go to the USA illegally. They walk through the gate because they have proven their worth in Mexico.

I put legally. I meant the opposite.

Yes we know every one is an American on this continent... Just ask any Mexican if he or she is American. Or better yet ask them if their soccer team should be called America instead of Mexico.

And yes you are right that this continent the Americas - north, central, and south America. But you know the term " the American dream" was coined for north America.

I don't agree in two words here: "a norm" and "in Mexico".

Like if all Mexico were a violent country, or the violence is generalized.

If you say "Tamaulipas is a Hell", "Sinaloa is a Hell" or "Michoacan is a Hell", we could discuss the validity of those claims.

In reality, taken as a whole, the violence in Mexico is more or less at the world's average.

If 15,000 people is killed annualy in the USA, this gives 90,000 deads in 6 years, number similar to Mexico.

Where are, then, the articles claiming the USA is "a failed state" or that "USA is hell"?(even taking into account the difference in population size).

Things are bad in many parts of Mexico, but BESIDES THAT there is a campaign against Mexico in the world press.

I am not sure what this campaign intends. But it exists.

Regards.

"The American Dream" is unmistake-able a USA product and it is almost impossible to confound the meaning... but this article, this just that.

"Searching the American Dream in Mexico" - from people that was expelled or forced to go from the USA.

Is it an stupid title or not? Or is it not, after all, a mockery?

You tell me.

What I really think is stupid is that these poor people can't dream in Mexico and have to dream in the US. It seems that now in Mexico they're down on their luck. There's a reason why Mexicans leave mexico in search for the American dream... but unfortunately back home have to settle for the Mexican one

You are right. Just chase your own dream where ever you want to be, or do. Just do it right and legally and not at the cost of others who have dreams of their own.
