Prohibition created corruption in the 1920's in our country just as it is doing again during the current Prohibition. You will never know how much bribery, graft, and redirection is happening until you open your eyes to it and stop blaming other countries for the idiocies of our leaders.

You hit it right on the dot. This people bring their culture here and expect to do the same things that they did in Mexico. That is something I have witnessed here in this border city. This illegal aliens don't believe in laws.

I have been reading the El Paso Times while living here in Chihuahua. I read it online. I cannot believe the corruption by government officials, police and the school boards and directors on these border towns. Sad to say I have noticed that 95% of the people that are doing it have Hispanic last names. Since the majority of people that live in El Paso are Hispanic that would make sense. It is like an extension of Mexico. Also in Socorro and other surrounding municipalities the same. I read about a border patrol agent that got caught the other day with 144 lbs of marijuana in his car. Most of these guys that get caught are of Hispanic heritage also, as attributed to their last names.

The problem is that so many of these people are related to people in Mexico and the money that can be made is very tempting to them. It would make sense for a narco or an illegal immigrant smuggler to trust a person with a Hispanic last name, then say someone with the last name of Smith.

I see many of the blogs and the Hispanic citizens in El Paso are fed up with it also, according to their disdain for this corruption and the government there. I am originally from Utah and yes once in a while it happens. But it is rare. It is usually one individual that embezzles some money in Utah. But in El Paso, they do it even in groups at times. It is as if they think they are above the law. I also notice that sometimes these people are not given very harsh sentences in El Paso when caught.

If you do not believe what I wrote above, just start reading the El Paso Times everyday as I do. Does not take a brain surgeon to figure out what is happening and why. The thing is it is their greed is effecting Mexican American citizens in their pocket books in the border towns. They do not like it either. They are not on the take or have the greed to take from other people. Read their blogs after the articles.

<quoted text>yeah my dad is from Chihuahua Iremember when we use to go visit my grandparents We stayed mostly on the ranch He hated going into town He had a brother who was shot and killed he was only 15 but because the other family had enough money they paid out of it . Ihave an aunt who lived in Santa Barbara . But i remember when we went we always had to pay the mordidas at the checkpoints Ithought it was crazy but my dad just said that is the way it was there - I am so sorry for your wife she must have been extremely upset and it always makes it worse when supposed friends betray your trust.
I know how sad your Dad must feel. Something you never forget. Lots of people that are Mexican and living in the United States do not want to even return to visit for that reason. How about you? I think you mentioned that you return to visit, but I cannot remember. Many people here have lost family and friends. I have lost friends myself and many I call family. My friend Memo that lived in Denver returned to live in Chihuahua, and just two months after he got here his son was shot outside a bar, because they got in a fight inside over a girl. His father and his son would never have killed anyone. They are awesome people.
