This question is for those born and raised in the Marshall Islands.

Regarding marriage customs, how does the family name change (or not) when a couple gets married?

That is, does the wife assume the husband's last name or does she retain her family name after marriage.

Also, web encyclopedia sources claim that it is customary for a couple to live together for some time before entering marriage. Is this true?

Thank you for any answers, this will help tremendously for my intercultural studies report.

After the marriage the wife assume the husband's last name. The wife will no longer have her last name. Just like AMERICAN MARRIAGE CUSTOMS.
