I know the 2006 world cup is about to start very soon but is going to be spectacular in 2010 to host the world cup in Africa. It will boost the economy. Four years from now South Africa will be hosting the World Cup. We must all come together to support South Africa and show the world what Africa can do. WWW.AFRICA2010WORLDCUP.CO.UK is a brilliant web site, bringing all the latest news about the world cup.

Sorry, I do not think that this will happen. Crime is rampant in South Africa and very few tourists will venture. And the ones who do go, wil have a big chance of being robbed, raped or even killed. No way this is going to happen.

Hey, I live in South Africa and let me tell you, I've never been raped, robbed or anything like that!
I am not denying that crime is rapant in my country, but it can all depend on the situation. Walking around holding out your sexy cellphone and expensive jewellery while knowing that you are not in your country is a pretty DUMB idea if you ask me.
I'm not trying to piss you off, Diego, but being conservitave and ALERT is all it takes.

People like Diego are the ones they categorically believe that Africa is all about evil and crime. Am glad that you put your ideas here, at least we can help you unlike others who keep quite. There are crimes in Africa relatively small comparing to Germany, yet they hosted world cup 2006. A tourist visiting London or New York is 45% likely to die with a gun, 35% likely to die in a terrorist attack, and 20% likely to be assaulted by yobs and the police will report as an accident.
Its not all what you read in papers on see on TV that truly portrays Africa. The biggest crime in Africa is poverty however it never deprives people with warm heart. You need to travel, maybe able to see the other side of the hand.....Visit forums like www.africa2010worldcup.co.uk where you can prepare your self a trip. Wake up, no matter what Africa will host 2010 world cup and they will cherish more than anyone else...why? Visit www.africa2010worldcup.co.uk

What world are you from? I live in South Africa and agree fully with Deigo, this country and the rest of Africa is a dump, a shithole of note, anything a black touches turns to shit, this weekend pasted the draw took place for the WC2010, an Austrian was gunned down for his cell phone and wallet, the death toll (murders only) is 55 people a day, 200 rapes a day, please do not compare Africa to the rest of the world, you have no idea how it feels to live in prison every day, electric fences, alarms system, 12ft walls around our properties, please do not compare, I can assure you that you will not survive this hole for 6 months. The WC 2010 visitor will be targeted by the blacks because that is what thy do.

Wena Martin, i'll show you the way to the airport if you do not know it or i will haul you physically to the airport and put you on the next plan to your country of origin. I am sure you are not an African at all.
Exactly what are you doing in South Africa, among blacks, the very people you passionately hate.

Please wake up.
I used to work in JHB with a British man is his late 40's. One day at work I asked him "Why are you is SA with all this crime" to which he responded "I have never been affected by it and don't know what all the fuzz is about". I was busy immigrating to Europe and could believe what he was saying. I promise you, exactly a week later, he was attacked in JHB whilst walking to the building where his car was parked and escaped death only by have serious operations due to stabbing wounds. They only took his cellphone. Now he's emailing me asking if I can find him a job. PLEASE WAKE UP

This this is really simple, if you don't like South Africa, the leave!!! I'm sure they might make better use of you elsewhere, and you might even get paid much better. So please, if you can't help out, leave us alone here, us who do not only try to make South Africa a better place but the whole world in general.

Let me tell you all the true story of life in South Africa:

Blacks will always cry racism whenever anyone ever questions their savage "lifestyles". Yet they will do anything to acquire Western and European tastes. Instead of walking around in the animal skins and spears and shields and run in the fields stabbing each other, they will wear the armani suits, form "empowerment" groups and basically steal from the country and now drive Beemers and shoot everyone.
Jacob Zuma, a man or rather animal is the preferred leader. The mere site of a friend's daughter's thigh is enough to drive him with primitive urge and he ends up up having unprotected sex with an HIV positive person. He is in cahoots with shady businessmen who pay for everything including R10 carwash for him
We have savages in our country, dark-skinned animals who rape children, who think having unprotected sex with a virgin is a cure for HIV/AIDS
You cannot wear jewellery or carry cash in town because you know you will relieved of it violently by these assholes. Blacks know how to make a mess of everything

What do you do in a country where:
The President and his "Health" Minister deny that HIV causes AIDS
The President has stated that he does not know anyone in South Africa who has died of AIDS. This despite his own personal assistant dying of HIV/AIDS and South Africa having the highest incidence and prevalence of HIV/AIDS
The President and the "Safety and Security" Minister denying that crime is a problem in South Africa. This despite South Africa having the highest rates for murders, rapes and robberies in the world. This despite South Africa having one of the highest rates of child abuse and child rape in the world. That tourists are mugged and killed in our streets and in the beachfront. The ANC and the ruling government promised education and housing, water and electricity for all. What happens? Black empowerment becomes the next gold rush. Everyone who is in the government or has connections in the government jumps on the bandwagon. They become obscenely rich and arrogant. The poor become even poorer. There are no houses. People still sleep in cardboard houses and they are the lucky ones. Malnutrition is very high. Unemployment is one of the highest in the world. There is no fresh water. These poor people have to work up to 20-30 km a day to get fresh water. I'll stop here for now - just to give the reader the chance to digest the facts. Will continue in future blog entries...Look out for these...

The World Cup went to SA simply to appease the blacks / Anc, no other reason.

YES ....Visit SA for the World Cup of Crime festival, just ensure your medical insurance is adequate....do not expect help or co operation from the SAPS.

Yes when you visit be prepared for the following:
-Almost non-existent first-world class public transport facilities. Where the public transport exists, its in the form of minibus taxis where the drivers are animals who disobey all the rules of the road and have scant regard for the safety of their passengers and those on the road. The bus services are no better as these vehicles are never serviced and the drivers have no training in manners. Whenever there is a taxi strike, busses cannot be driven as these will be burnt.
-Any driver who takes you around town will try and scam you.
-Massive traffic congestion. Firstly there are no new roads being contructed. As it is currently, these roads cannot cope with the volume of traffic now. God knows what will happen in 2010. Most of the roads are falling into a state of serious disrepair. Potholes and large cracks in the road are a common sight. Robots or traffic lights often don't work due to load shedding, a euphimistic term for saying that our national electricity supplier (ESKOM) is totally useless and cannot cope with the current electricity needs of the country. Accidents are common in South African roads with very slow emergency response rates. Anyway the bloody minibus taxis will end up blocking the emergency lanes. The traffic cops wont fine them for this though as they are too scared.
-Hordes of street children who will bug you and make your life a misery at every corner of the streets. Most of them are very violent as well and are drug abusers.
-Filthy beaches. Firstly the Blacks have no idea about public (and personal) hygiene. Our sewage system cannot cope at present. Therefore, fecal ladden sewage waters will enter our beach waters. Our city manager, in Durban, says that this is not a huge problem!!
-A colossal crime problem. Don't talk on your cell in the streets. You will be violently parted from it. Forget about counting your change on the streets. You will be parted from your jewellery before you know it. Your car will be stolen in no time or you will hi-jacked often with disasterous consequences. Your wife or girlfriend will be raped and sodomised in front of you and you and your children will be tortured to reveal whether the rest of your foreign currency is. If you use an ATM, just know that the cons have got there before you. Your card and your pin details will be known to them and before you know it, your account will cleared.
-Don't bother with reporting any crime to the police. Firstly many of them are criminals themselves. Secondly many of them are corrupt. Thirdly, many of them are shit-scared of the criminals. Fourtly, they wil arrest you for reporting a crime.
-Shithole state health care facilities. Our public hospitals are in a state of collapse. You are more likely to die in a state hospital than outside of it if you fall sick. The queues are so long that they never end. Most doctors and nurses are unfriendly and uncaring. There have been reports of sex orgies amongst nurses while patients lay dying in nearby wards. If you don't having medical insurance, forget about going to a state hospital for health care.
-A useless performance by Bafana Bafana the home soccer team. They won't get past the first round. The Blacks play a style of soccer unique to them, its called dribble yourself and score no goals. Am tired now. Will send info later...keep reading

Guess what all those who plan to come to South Africa for the 2010 World Cup? A passenger in a minibus taxi (read: death trap) overhead 2 Black guys talking about how they aim to make lots of money during the 2010 World Cup. By violently robbing tourists of their dollars and pounds. This is what they said and has been reported in the newspapers. By the way the passenger who heard this had no means to travel to work except use a minibus taxi as he had been hi-jacked at gunpoint a few weeks ago. Goodness know how the rest of these savages are plotting and planning their crime sprees during the World Cup. I pray for all the tourists and people of South Africa that we don't fall victim to crime. God Help Us All.

Zuma the prick who always insists that he is a victim of some political agenda now wants to have his case thrown out of court. What are you so afraid of you fat shit? That the truth will come out of how you romance prostitutes supplied by Schabir Shaik, of how you benefited from bribes and handouts? Have the guts to go to court. You Fat Ugly Moron.

My oh my, I have read all the posts here, and Scorpio, you have made me smile from ear to ear. I think all these things, but it is not usually 'politically' correct to refer to the country's problems in such a frank manor, certainly when living abroad, as I do now (I am an expat), where most people have no idea what it's like to live in Africa. It is only other expat's that I meet that are fully aware of South Africa's very many shortcomings.
I don't believe there is much more I can add to your string of truths. However, I can recall my own personal experience of the country.
Crime was NEVER a problem when I was a young child growing up. At least not in the white neighbourhoods. I loved my childhood that I shared with my twin brother. Sadly, I have witnessed this beautiful country fall further and further into a state of disrepair over the past 10 years or so. Here is a list the crimes that have affected me in order of oldest to most recent (which is symbolic of the rate of decline occurring inside the country):(1) bicycle stolen from property (2) two motor vehicles stolen from property (3) Police giving chase jumped the wall into our property, and pulled their guns out of their holsters, stopping a criminal in his tracks in our garden. This made quite an impression on me as a young girl of about 10yrs of age.(4) Dad held up at knifepoint, blade against his throat (he is lucky to be alive today)(5) motor vehicle broken into countless times (6) friends held up at gunpoint, house emptied of possessions and brand new car stolen (7) friend's car hijacked in his own driveway, forced to kneel down, executioners style, while gun pointed at the back of his head (luckily they never shot him)(8) Finally, and I have to say, inevitably, my twin brother was shot and killed in an attempted car hijacking. One bullet through the heart. Blacks know how to kill a white man, especially in today's South Africa, where there seems to a drive towards some sort of ethnic cleansing; not an unusual practise on the continent of Africa.
The place makes me sick to my stomach. The natural beauty of South Africa certainly remains unrivalled, but the socio-economic situation is indescribably out of sync, and in desperate need of an over-haul, which I fear will never come.
The 2010 Soccer World Cup may very well see South Africa even more on its knees on completion than it is already. Not only should the tourists be warned of the very real dangers, but the residents of SA should be warned that it will not bring to the country the wealth and prosperity they expect, instead, it may bring even more poverty and socio-economic despair, when the investments made don't see the returns anticipated. The rest of the world will be in the throws of it's own economic recession in the year 2010. Who do you think will have the inclination to travel to such a notoriously dangerous country at a huge financial cost to themselves?...Brace yourselves.

I have been scared to use public transport all my life in South Africa. Recently moved to Cape Town to escape the Gauteng prison and have found things in Cape Town far less hectic. There is public tranport I can use, and I am. Yeah, Cape Town may be the murder capital of the world, but it's gang related to certain areas in the flats.
Go read about my experiences on my blog at: capecommuter.blogspot.com

I've been to South Africa on business several times. It is a beautiful country and its people are hard working. Yes there is crime on the streets etc.. but, I don't believe that there is any more then in other parts of the world or in larger cities. In Brazil for instance the crime statistics are intentionally down played. Jo'berg is not worse then Sao Paulo. In fact, NYC in the states has a lot of crime too. There are many factors which relate to crime, poverty, hunger, poor education etc... Perhaps we should all be working together to defeat these issues and thus bring about a reduction in crime around the world. Color does not matter... That is just a bigots view.

Most visitors will be captivated by South Africa, live in the country for 2 years, and it is a whole different story. 300 000 people murdered in 14 years of ANC rule, enter the deadly lotto at your own risk.
